switch every time the word "gay" occurs with the word "Christian" and the other way around and the same report will still bother the religions people, "Christianity is a life style, its a choice"......hahahahahah

but on another side, yes religiousness can be detected on a personal level as religious people brains seem to work deferent, i don't recall where i read it but a study found statistically significant deferences between brain activity charts of religious and irreligious people.

also there is deference of guilt handling emotionally as religious people seem to feel less guilt emotions in terms of intensity and duration than non-religious people.

     thnkyu for the article

I then wonder if religious people are more likely to suffer from ocd or ocd-like symptoms compared to irreligious people?

Muslims certainly are, with all that Wudu and farting breaks your Wudu crap. It's just people practicing an OCD of a long ago dead Arab.

     Cheesy

Sad, but it's true. Just reminded me of that whole 'holding ur farts'. I remember back in my 5-salah days I used to try to make one wudu last as long as possible. I cheated a bit, since I personally classed silent-but-deadlies as non-farts.

makes me wonder why farting is considered unclean and breaks your wudu?  The same gas is inside you before its released, so technically arent you more unclean before lift-off?

The ritualistic idea of "cleanliness" is nothing to do with actual dirt of or physical cleanliness. It's a very old practice of going through specific motions to clean yourself of bad spirits and demons. Islam inherited this concept from the Zoroastrians who also valued ritual purity before their religious activities. The farting just symbolizes the profane and the base aspects of our mortal selfs and thus breaks that ritual purity.

The concept that wudu symbolizes a very very old pagan/semitic one that Islam simply co-opted. In semitic cultures, water was considered not just a source of physical life, but also the source of spiritual purity and had the power to cleanse away evil spirits.

The funny thing is that farting should negate prayers for the entire day. Why you ask? Because when you fart you release brown particles, these brown particles (you know what I mean, we're not talking Snickers here) end up in your trousers. Mm nice, you do wudu with microscopic shit-stains in your trousers and/or underwear.

I still farted though, and still do. Loudly. But it did bother me that nobody spoke about farting itself being dirty, only when praying, and never in the sense that you should change your trousers or underwear or whatever. And the reason why I myself kept doing it, well because it wasn't wrong. Religious people will do anything they are allowed to do and anything within the limits of what they can do. I honestly don't think the human spirit is meant to be behind bars. Of course we can be evolved primates but religion is not really evolving us much. At least I can't see the proof for it.

My kind sir, where can I become as enlightened as you? In less gay terms: recommend me some books!

Hmmm, I'll try to get you a reference which book I read this one about. It was about near east religions and their influence on the Abrahamic faiths. It had a little paragraph on Islamic practices like wudu and how it's simply an old semitic concept. Luckily I'm back in my parents house this holiday so hopefully i'll be able to retrieve which book this was.

Also the pagan meccans pretty much did the same thing before prostrating towards their tribal deities. In fact the Muslim hajj cloth was the exact white sheet the pagans used to wear. You can see similar concepts of ritual purity in Zoroastrianism:

But isnt the shit & fart still stored inside you, so arent we technically always unclean until its released?

Yes, but isn't one always supposed to go to bathroom before prayer? That's what I was taught. Not sure if it's Sunnah though.

Once again, its not the fart itself that's the problem, its the act of farting. You guys are viewing scientifically an idea of ritual purity that is largely metaphorical in nature. Technically you're supposed to have done wudu before EVERY prayer, if Islam were true to its spiritual predecessors of the old semitic religions. Islam however just made it a bit easier by allowing wudus to last for more prayers since we have 5 - while Zoroastrians and Pagan Arabs probably didn't make as many devotions to their gods.

I know a lot about Islam but have never heard that before, so I doubt its in the hadith but perhaps oan obscure one.  Might be just another old wives tale..
