    May Allah bless his beard. Who needs the Boeing 747 argument, this guy, I mean this guy is like the Super Creationist. He should walk around with a CS on his chest and wear a green little cape. Because the man can obviously leap with a single bound over the infidels' arguments.  

    Anyways, I watched a minute of this and I couldn't stand it, the moment he said our ancestors were apes I knew it was a lost cause. But his beard has an almost hypnotizing effect on me, so I forced myself to watch the rest. Which I regret, because it had even more bollocks.

    It's funny how he went from the cart to the car. Erm, isn't that a form of technological evolution?

    Man, his beard is something else, I just turned the volume off and it helped me watch a bit longer.

    No but their translation is as far as I can see pretty accurate. Sure taken out of context, but how does it change what he is saying?

    credible source?  Its a video of him talking - the source is his mouth, not the progamme makers.  I must be missing your point, unless you are suggesting the television newtwork mistranslated it on purpose Huh?

    Who cares? How does this have any relation to the validity of the video? If you can prove it's fake, then please do so. Otherwise, MEMRI's link to Israel makes little difference as far as this video goes.

    I live in the West, speak arabic I never ever watch arabic tv or satellite tv. Until I joined this forum I didn't know that there were so many fucked up opinions, and I'm not talking in terms of religious ones, but historical ones and scientific ones. There are so much inaccurate opinions being portrayed as facts.

    In some cases, it might reinforce the prejudice. In other cases, such as mine, it completely destroys it. I had no idea it was this bad, I didn't even think it was bad. I thought the train of progress is moving along it's tracks over there as well. Because that's what I see over here.

    And besides comparing it to Nazi propaganda is wrong. There is nothing being propagated here. What he says we understand, and where he get it's from, well we know that as well. In fact if anything he is reinforcing prejudice and stereotypes. And that's why we need to see this. Especially me, I'm fucking gullible, for example I always thought the claims of antisemitism was exaggerated or western propaganda. But that's BS!

    I know what you mean, but in this case I can't agree. And to answer your question, as long as I'm not paying for it then yes.

    What are you saying one should do? Ban MEMRI? Ignore it? Be wary? Sure, I'll be skeptical. But when I hear crazy shit how may I supposed to react? Have you see the videos of the hulk man of Egypt? Or the "scholar" talking about how Native Americans spoke arabic? I know these are few selected clips, but I never thought I'd such see drivel coming from a muslim. Being a muslim, or I don't know if I can still honestly call myself that, I used to equate everybody else who is sane (ie not Osama for example) on the same level as me, or better. I was looking at Muslims, Muslim countries and Islam through rainbow-tinted glasses.  

    I honestly couldn't care less about Memri, my concern is with Muslim countries and Muslims. So in that spirit I promise you I will start watching more Arabic satellite TV and Arabic movies. And I have you to blame erm I mean THANK for that Cheesy

    Yes, I would listen to a Nazi video if Dawkins was doing a video.. in fact I have listened to Nazi videos in the past to get a glimpse of the other 'side'.  After watching the video there was nothing that surprised me so no reason to doubt its translations, unless you are suspicious of the whole translation of his absurd analogy of horse-carts evolving into bicycles  Huh?  In anycase its just a random video, and none of us are conducting philosophical theses on the matter.

    Dude no offense, a few paragraphs into that article I stumble on this:

    Pressed further by the mouse - "What are we going to do?" - the girl replies in Arabic: "Bidna nqawim." The normal translation of this would be "We're going to [or want to] resist" but Memri's translation puts a more aggressive spin on it: "We want to fight."

    This is fucking bullshit. Nqawim CAN mean resist. Where is his reference for normal translation btw? But in this case it can also mean we want to fight. In fact, it's more of a fighting type resistance, a violent resistance. I doubt you can use nqawim for non-violent resistance.

    If you use a source you know nothing of. And it's in a language you don't speak. But you still use it...then yes. It's reinforcing your own prejudice.

    Not really, it depends in what context you are doing it.  I dont think he was making any serious political statements by sticking it up, I assume it was a lighthearted post on a forum,  not a journal for a PhD doctorate.  Even having said that I am pretty sure, for all intents and purposes the translation is stll pretty accurate.  Shall we get an arabic speaker on this forum to confirm?
