  • Why are you here on this Forum?
     OP - December 26, 2009, 02:09 PM

    Hi All,

Why are you here on this forum?

    Me?

I am for chit-chat on religion and spirituality mainly.

No hidden agendas to convert people to atheism or anything or make people hate their parents ;-)
    or destroy all religions :-)

But why don't I go to another chat forum?

Because I like chit chatting about religion and spirituality.

And when I feel chit chatting about politics I go to Guardian CIF.

Why don't you go to other religious forum?

Because I was born into Islam and can only talk about Islam.

Why don't you go to an Atheist Forum since you are an atheist?

Because I don't like forums that agree with me all the time :-)

And here there are believers, agnostics and atheists. There is a mixture I think.

So chaps and chappesses why are you here?

I know most of you are here to talk about your loss of faith...your apostacy...but that is not my main reason...

What other reason's do you have being here?

Why are you here on this forum?

    Me?

To socialise and share experiences, positive or negative.

I don't wish to convert other people to my way of thinking. It's a conclusion that I arrived at myself and appreciate that people will arrive at their own conclusions, regardless of whether I agree with them or not. My family is muslim and I don't hate muslims.

I don't feel the need to do so. Besides I like the people on this forum.

Because the majority of the participants on this forum are ex-muslims and we share similar experiences.

Too much to keep up with. It's more social for me than anything else. Besides, I think there is more than enough material, threads and discussions to keep one occupied.

I have plenty of books sat on my shelf about atheism, thus the lack of interest in those forums.

It would be nice to make new friends, especially if they are local to me.

Its a good place, decent people, good mixture of seriousness and laughter, and Islam is something we all need to talk about.

    Bueno!

I would hate it if my words caused somone to turn to atheism. I would feel burdened by this.

I used to post on this forum as a release, and admittedly the reason I do not post as much anymore is that I can be a lot more honest at home about my beliefs (or lack thereof).

Why are you here on this forum?

Because I am an ex-Muslim, and I like the forums being laid out in rules, and the people not being bigoted or overly PC.

But why don't I go to another chat forum?

I actually do post in Arab Atheists Network. It is sometimes easier to discuss Islam in Arabic, not to mention it is my mother tongue.

Why don't you go to other religious forum?

Well, I have no interest in discussing with people about different theologies besides Islam, as they are somewhat irrelevant to me. Besides, there's already quite a few discussions about other religions here.

Why don't you go to an Atheist Forum since you are an atheist?

If you count Arab Atheists Network as one, then I already go there. But I really don't go to a multitude of Atheist sites because it would be kinda like a waste of time, considering that the topics are going to be more or less revolving around the same circle.

You obviously haven't been to Dawkins forums.  Beleivers frequent those boards and, LOL, it's nothing but disagreements.

    Hi All,

Why are you here on this forum?

Because Q-Man wants to have my babies and I'm trying to humour him.

I do frequent some other forums, but most of them are dead.  I do go to other places to chat, but it's more social network-y.

Well, first, I don't bother with Muslim ones because everyone I know has been banned from them, so it's not worth the effort to set up an account (or rather, a new one  Wink ).  I've visited some atheist forums but they're either very rough and tumble and a little beyond me or they're very dead.  I do belong to some pagan / pantheist forums as well.

On a real note, I came to this forum because I apostatized when I was living in a place where it was illegal and so I couldn't talk to any of my friends in real life about what was going on, not even to voice doubts.  I thought if I didn't find some outlet, I might not be able to hold my tongue about some of the stuff, and that I would wind up in shariah court after saying something in front of the wrong person.

I stayed because I like to chat about Islam sometimes, and my social network-y people don't understand or know where I'm coming from if we talk about religion.  I don't have to explain the deen to people here so that they can understand why it was a big deal for me to wear elbow length shirts or eat skittles.  Also, I like the discussions, for the most part.  And if I can help someone who is quitting Islam and is afraid to embrace their atheism, then I'm glad to do it.

I clicked modify and now I can't remember another thought I was going to add because I am old.

Because Hass asked me to join at the beginning and have kinda hung around because there can be some interesting threads and have got used to checking out what's new now and again. Sibling bliss has been restored, should anyone be tempted to make a comment along the lines of 'I bet he regrets it now!' Smiley

I like this forum because it's linked to Council of Ex-Muslims and I wish to support this cause. I can relate to members here too. I like the well rounded contributions on how Islam is developing too from all the links.

Why are you here on this Forum?

    A) I'm not
    B) 13
    C) c'est la gare. (Year 7 French finally came in handy).

I came here originally because I liked to read Awais and Hassan's posts.
