Shit, I almost forgot another of my all time favorites-- "The Warriors"

I was genuinely inspired when I first heard Cyrus's speech-- "Can you dig it?!?!?"

Mann's best flick I've seen is "The Insider". Seen that one?

Last of the Mohicans is a riot. I mean, incredible charged emotional violent historical flick he did.

The Insider was alright, I preferred Heat, just like Kafirist.

    Hmm... Let's see!

A sign of a good movie for me is no matter how many times you have seen it, if it comes on the telly again this evening, then I'll watch it again and so on ad-infinitum!

In that category, there are two that stick out like a sore thumb for me......

    Shawshank Redemption

    Forest Gump

There are some rather unconventional films I've seen as well such as "Once were warriors" anyone seen that?

Yup. My ex lived through shit like that (not with me though  Tongue ). We both saw it.

Bandit Queen was hard case too.

Easy Virtue is fantastic. One of the best films I've ever seen.

ETA: And Snatch rocked too. Opening scenes were hilarious.

Thank you for adding a Brazilian movie to the list, billy!  Afro

I'll add my list in a couple of days because I'll have to disappear from the forum once again. New Year's today and I still gotta my paper to finish until Tuesday.... tough times  Tongue

However I recommend watching this Brazilian short movie from 1989 by Jorge Furtado. It's only abut 12 minutes long and this version is subtitled in English.

It's called "Ilha das Flores"  and the English title is "Isle of Flowers"

    There's also a dubbed version:

Hope you guys like it  Smiley

I think Cidade de Deus is one of the greatest movies ever made. At least, one of the greatest movies I have ever seen.

Rise of the foot soldier was also quite good.

My parents have dish and when I came to visit them for a few days, I was flipping through channels at midnight and stumbled on it. I was intrigued by the beautiful ladies.

    lol!

I'm amazed they are already showing it in the USA. Some actresses are really pretty and some are also talented... when they are not doing soap operas, that is.

That one in particular annoyed me a little because people and the media started saying the most ridiculous things about Indian culture and society. It was a stereotype festival.

Favourites - The Pink Panther (Original), Richard Prior Live, Life of Brian, Zulu, Baraka, Dosti (Hindi 1964)

In no particular order, I'd venture a tentative recommendation for these (taste being the subjective thing that it is):

    Naked Lunch
    La Lectrice
    Thirst
I've recommended some Wong-Kar Wai films elsewhere - Chungking Express and the 2046 trilogy. A dis-recommendation for Ashes of Time, though.
Also, Divine Intervention (as directed by Elia Suleiman) gets my vote.
