But for lots it’s much more than that.

Fun fact:
Avatar was shown in Iran, Cuba and North Korea. These countries normally aren't exactly eager to show Hollywood stuff.

Avatar obviously has a strong environmental message.

But I wonder how many people have absorbed this message with the realisation that amazing biological treasures, similar to the ones on Pandora, actually exist here on Earth... and that the environmental movement has been fighting to protect them for decades.

One day, if we (human race) develop technologies that help us to get to the stars, we will probably do exactly what was shown in this film. We destroy our own planet, our own home for money and supremacy. Unfortunately when the resources of our planet finish we will parasitize on other heavenly place like our beautiful planet.

The movie has a great similarity to what is hapening in the Amazon jungle, our world's lung. Destruction of the rainforests in order thrive meat industry, rendering the forests into deserts.

Also coral reefs with bioluminescent creatures and delicate Christmas tree worms - almost identical to the giant ones on Pandora - are threatened by bottom trawling, overfishing, pollution and climate change.

I wonder how many people walked away from the film towards a future as willing to be a green activist? We should stand up against devastation of our planet.

I'm sure some naive youngsters did. But I, fortunately, have no conscience and walked away knowing full well that IRL I would be one of those dudes eagerly launching missiles at the big tree.

Heck my current job involves aiding two very special industries: logging and oil. And they both operate and rip apart the local virgin forests of northern Canada.

Yeah, I suck. Thats why this movie was 'escapist' for me. We all know in real life Jake Sully would quickly drop that Navi bitch for a $500 raise.
