Don't thumbs up him. All he's done is put stuff in my mouth which I never said/meant and then disproved that stuff and claimed that I said it.

I was never talking about the reproductive cloning which he's talking about where a baby is produced from your tissues/body cells and it grows up rapidly and then its killed and you get the organs, I was talking about cloning an adult body similar to yours through the use of stem cells or any other means, or even pursuing that technology if it doesn't exist today.

There are laws banning human cloning of all sorts, under those laws that sort of harmless 'adult' cloning research may also be prohibited because there might be a few deformed bodies produced in the beginning.

Edit: The term for what I've been referring to is therapeutic cloning & replacement cloning, what Exhindu seems to have been thinking I've been referring to is reproductive cloning.

You cant clone with stem cells you ding a ling.

Cloning is not stem cells. Stem cells is not cloning.

You are talking about making full human bodies that are disabled to harvest the organs through cloning, That has nothing to do with stem cells.

I have a BSc Human Biology with Music, focusing in genetics (cloning, genes, making babies all covered), and immunology (transplantation and stem cells covered too), the things that you are thinking of are according to what I learn complete and total bull.

Stem cell research = making organs from stem cells.

Cloning = making a full copy of a human from his / her chromosomes.

The first one has passed ethical checks after years upon years of debate and scientific research. The second makes handicapped humans. We dont need to be making those.

We keep hearing about how Jack Straw or the French government have mentioned the veil and our doing so puts us in the same boat as them. How so? I want a ban on the burka, neqab and child veiling.

Bullshit, I have never talked about that you muppet. Read everything I've said again and tell me where I have suggested this. Stop putting stuff in my mouth I haven't said.

Read again what I've said including the part you conviniently ignored:

I'm talking only about producing new 'adult' bodies through stem cells or other means

And tell me what therapeutic cloning means if cloning can't be done without the reproductive cloning method you're talking about.

Both forms of cloning and research on them is banned in a lot of countries. I've been advocating only research on therapeutic cloning

If you take my stem cells and make a copy of my kidney, wouldn't it be called a clone of my kidney?
If it can be done with one body organ can't it be done with the full body?

You cant make brainless bodies from cloning facepalm facepalm facepalm.

You are probably thinking of creating a whole new body from stem cells, by the time that would ever become possible, mankind will have probably have destroyed this planet and exterminated themselves.

The brainless body BS you are reading is still BS theories. The form of cloning that is banned is the one that has nothing to do with stem cells, but the one that involves making full handicapped babies. This is, and IMO always will be illegal as it provides no benefit at all.

  • Re: Reversal of aging and revival from death research

Research is allowed on discarded Embryonic Stem Cells.

Once we can actually create full organs, nerves and whatever else from this, we may then create a proposal to use cloned cells to create matching embryonic stem cells for the donor.

But untill we know how to create the organs from stem cells in the first place, which we yet dont, the whole cloning process is still pointless and just a theory.

I missed what you meant by using a cloned embryo to obtain stem cells from, this is still pointless untill we know what to do with those stem cells.

I were mostly confused over your killing babies post, thinking that you implied fully developed cloned babies, not embryos. When discussing this topic, please do not ever ever ever refer to embryos as babies like a christian would, that just confuses the whole thing.

Currently, only discarded embryos from abortions are allowed to be used for this research as we have no idea what to do with them. Once we know what to do to create organs from the stem cells, this is when the proposal can be made to obtain stem cells from cloned embryos to grow organs for people needing transplants, but you really need to try and grasp just how excessively difficult, expensive and time consuming this would be, only millionaires would ever be able to afford such a treatment, if it ever became possible.

I also think that embryonic stem cells obtained from this idea of cloned cells would also age rapidly, this is not a science that biologists are yet ready to research and is something like 100 - 200 years at least ahead of us.

Basically, before we start using cloned embryos to research this, we need to first learn how to create the organs / brainless body from the discarded embryos and know how to apply this to the cloned ones. There is currently no difference at all in this field by banning the used of cloned embryos, it would not speed the research up in any way.

Creating a whole brainless body from stem cells and transplanting your brain .... Eeeeuuuurrrrgggghhhhh, hat just freaks me out. That wont happen in our life time, so dont wory about it Smiley

Thanks for clearing that up. What I'm still a bit pissed off about is that creation of new embryos for the purpose of research through theraputic cloning is not allowed in many places just to avoid 'killing some babies' lol. But I guess in time that would be allowed or we'll find another way.

Lol, I apologize, I had read about someone saying something about dead babies & stem cell research and that was on my mind when I typed that.

Since you think the research for a cloned brainless body is too far ahead, what do you propose someone can do now to help with life extension / slowing down/recovery from aging sort of research? Specifically what areas they should do a bachelor/undergrad/phd degree in.
  • Re: Reversal of aging and revival from death research
     Reply #39 - January 06, 2010, 04:08 AM

Erm, cryogenics or botanics Huh?  Cheesy

A Human Biology degree is a good idea because that would cover everything. My university ran Genetics, Immunology, Neuroscience, Nutrition and Evolution all under that course, but due to going Major / Minor I had to skip out Neuroscience and Evolution.

Research for cloned brainless bodies isnt too far ahead, it is just that we currently cant even make organs, this is what area you would go into today in this field, trying to make organs. Immunology would cover transplantation along with immune system, bacterial / viral disease (everywhere will teach HIV extensively) and allergies, Genetics goes into stem cells, mutations, genes, babies, gender development, pre natal screening, genetic disease (personality + physical), cancer and cloning.

I think you would want to combine both of them like I did, Immunogenetics would be the ideal course for this, or a Human Biology one that covers genetics and immunology like mine did. You just need to make sure to avoid plain Biology though because you have to do boring plants, environments and ecsystems in that one.

Basically, life extension and stem cells is under genetics, transplantation is under immunology. You would want to focus in learning about DNA, telomeres and cell division for aging, but this is a very minor area and not fully understood, which means lots of room for reasearch.

Yea, I think it is immunogenetics you want, not Biotechnology as Biotech covers plants and insulin and unrelated things like that, immunogenetics covers cloning, DNA, Stem Cells and transplantation which are what you are wanting to go into.

Thanks a LOT for the info mate, really appreciate that.

Actually I would prefer not to have anything to do with transplantation, I would rather focus on the side of producing the new organs and let others worry about the transplantation. Its also the genetics & stem cell research which interests me more. What do you think about that, do you still think immunogenetics is what I want or is there a better alternative?
  • Re: Reversal of aging and revival from death research
     Reply #41 - January 06, 2010, 06:04 AM

Maybe just straight genetics would be fine then, but you still have to cover lots of unrelated areas to make up a whole science degree. Immunogenetics would give a better understanding behind how organs, transplants and graft rejection occur, which is handy for the stem cell side of things, whereas plain genetics would cover a lot of stuff like huntingtons choria, genetic personality disorders, hermaphrodites, cancer etc, so immunogenetics would still be the better choice to cover more related areas to what you are interested in.

Basically, stem cells would only make up about half a term of a single module, there is so much extra that you also have to cover, so immunogenetics would be more relevant.

I'm guessing since immonogenetics is such a specalized field it would have to be in a PhD, right? So for the bachelors/masters i'd have to do something in molecular biology?

Gah, its so annoying it makes my blood boil.

Who cares if a few babies get killed to save millions of lives?

Its like all these people think babies are like some really special creatures and when those same babies would become adults those same people who didn't want them to die as a baby wouldn't even give them a job, lol.

Seriously, a baby is an unconscious entity. Just give it an injection if its deformed and move on. Why do they need to hold back the progress of science for some stupid babies.

Its a joke used by atheists, because Religious folk often say we are just Atheists because we want to sin all the time.

Someone sarcasticly replied sometime in a distant past "Well yea, i am an atheist because i want to eat babies every day!" Or something like that.

Now please excuse me, my microwave just ringed, my dinnerbaby is ready now.

Whats worse than a dead baby?

A pile of dead of dead babies.

    Whats even worse?

A live one in the middle.

    Whats even worse?

    It eats its way out.

    Whats even worse?

    It goes back for seconds.

    ------------------

Whats better than a dead baby?

    A roast dead baby.

    Whats even better?

It was softened beforehand with a meat tenderiser.

    Whats even better?

It was marinated with curry spices.

    Whats even better?

It is sliced and diced into mouth sized chunks.

    Whats even better?

It is now on my dinner plate. Mmmmmmmm .....

What do you get if you put a baby in a blender?

I was talking about cloning an adult body similar to yours through the use of stem cells or any other means, or even pursuing that technology if it doesn't exist today.

Oh god. Take him back please. So now you do not want to kill the babies, but what you suggest means we have to make them grow for years first until they become an adult body first, and then you kill them. Will you at least allow them to subscribe to the 'last wish foundation' first? or will you just start chopping.

I know you will be upset at me putting words in your mouth, perhaps you just want an adult body to be made 'out of the box', so you an kill it instead of killing a cute & cuddly baby. But as it stands, what you suggest is fiction, and the reality is, and for the next few decades at least, we can only grow an adult body through a baby growing.
