  • At any moment..
     OP - January 14, 2010, 01:53 PM

When i was a believer, I used to think that God can crushed earth or the universe at any moment but now that i've became an atheist, i questioned it, can earth die at any moment? i mean, can a comet comes and that none of us is aware of it? (pardon me for my ignorance but do correct me if i'm wrong) the observatory observe the terrestrial and/or celestial events at a certain angle , is it possible that a comet can come at a different angle? you know, at angle that outside the range of the observatory's angle?

How about a comet that we could see? Coming in our direction, one that will certainly hit the earth. And one that is massive. What do we do then? Because I think Bruce Willis is getting too old to save us this time.

I still find that scary.  A comet could just blow up the earth to smithereens in a millisecond, the universe will just continue as normal and not give 2 hoots.  In fact there have been 5 times in histroy whn up to 95% of life was destroyed by a calmitous event like that.

But nowadays, astronomers know if an asteroid is due to hit the earth or not, and how close to earth an asteroid will travel, so we will have plenty of warning if it does.

So what can we do if we know its coming, and its too big & fast to do anything about it?

its the inevitability and reality of life. the universe does not revolve around us, it does not need us to exist.
