     OP - January 21, 2010, 10:53 AM

    I have read and heard a few  claims online that  50-62% of the Quran is about lets say not kind things towards non muslims.
    Hassan in one of his videos said around 50% and at least the other 50% is good stuff.

    Does anyone have a link to where i can find these statistics about the Quran?

    It's true, for the most part. The Skeptic's Annotated Quran lists all the relevant verses, and more:

    If you want to verify any quotes, http://al-quran.info is a good source.

    The sad thing is, they do.

    83:29-36 (Yusuf Ali) - http://tinyurl.com/ykt2kh5

    (29) Those in sin used to laugh at those who believed,
    (30) And whenever they passed by them, used to wink at each other (in mockery);
    (31) And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting;
    (32) And whenever they saw them, they would say, "Behold! These are the people truly astray!"
    (33) But they had not been sent as keepers over them!
    (34) But on this Day the Believers will laugh at the Unbelievers:
    (35) On Thrones (of Dignity) they will command (a sight) (of all things).
    (36) Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did?

    That figure is very generous by Hassan. I could not find 1% of good stuff to humanity. And another 1% of good stuff to muslims. The rest is 'look at the sun and the moon', then 'obey or else', then 'disbelieve and this will happen to you'.

    Plenty of stories as well, but none of the NT type stories where there always is a moral at the end. The stories are more like the OT stories. Just a story with no clear purpose or conclusion except sometimes to convey the occasional 'obey or else'.

    It is One of the main hurdle facing modernizing the koran. It is my opinion that open-minded muslims can not modernize the koran and igrnore the bad bits because there is so little good stuff for them to hang on to if they go the open-minded route.

    "Ask the slave girl; she will tell you the truth.' So the Apostle called Burayra to ask her. Ali got up and gave her a violent beating first, saying, 'Tell the Apostle the truth.'"

    I guess thats where ijtihad comes in. The bad things are actually good things. You just have to reinterpret it properly or something Roll Eyes. If bad things can`t simply be forgotten or people are unwilling to discard anything from the quran, then 4.34 pretty much has to mean leave.

    I think the biggest problem is absolutism. Jews and Xtians are willing to admit that theres immorality and whatnot in their books. As long as the quran is perfect, nothing can be changed. Changing one letter is destroying an entire argument for Islam being the right religion. I cant see any significant number of mainstream Muslims willing to do this in my lifetime.

    Since Arabic is skewable to whatever one`s desires might be, people would rather go the intellectually dishonest route, so the problem is never with the quran.

    And then youve got people like Manji who will question the qurans perfection, that it is the word of god, its clarity, and even go so far as to admit that its ''message is all over the damn place'', and call some of its verses misogynistic and after all that, still claim to be a faithful Muslim. If most reformers were like this, there`d be no hope at all.

    I found a website called political Islam.com they have some numbers i was looking for yet i am unsure of how reliable that website is.

    According to that site the Quran has about 153,000 words and 61% is bad stuff for the kuffir and they call this part of the quran political Islam which leaves 39% for religion.
    They Cite a K.S.Lal from India who gives a higher figure at 63% for political Islam.

    They have counted the words in the trilogy of books and also claim 86% is about Mohammed leaving the last 14% for Allah.

    I have read a few articles there and it appears to be OK with my  understanding of Islam.

    Whats the verdict on this website from those here at the CEMB?
