If you want to enter a state of lucid dreaming, then for couple weeks, you have to sleep for 2hrs at a time, and wake up and write what you dreamt about or write 'nil'.
The state of lucid dreaming should happen much earlier on average, like during the first week. I never did it. I like to sleep.

"Ask the slave girl; she will tell you the truth.' So the Apostle called Burayra to ask her. Ali got up and gave her a violent beating first, saying, 'Tell the Apostle the truth.'"

I never knew you could make yourself aware that you were dreaming. Thats cool. It used to happen to me more often, but never of my own volition. Also Ive heard wearing socks helps you remember your dreams. Yeah.

I've tried lucid dreaming but it's not something I have found can come at will.  Sometimes I am lucid, I know I shouldn't have hit the floor for instance, hitting the floor in a dream means you die (yeah yeah I know) . I am aware that this is a dream, and that in reality my lung hasn't collapsed in on itself, but taking control hasn't happened even though I have willed for it to change.

Dreams are your subconscious trying to tell you something.  If you had the ability to decide what you dream then you would be lying to yourself wouldn't you?

"Modern man's great illusion has been to convince himself that of all that has gone before he represents the zenith of human accomplishment, but can't summon the mental powers to read anything more demanding than emoticons. Fascinating. "

Depends on how you define dream I guess, and whether there are different grades of subconsciousness, and whether they can be influenced or not.. remember the mind is never completely subconscious otherwise we would suffocate at night
