  • How can we help the copts in egypt?

    hey,

    i recently had some discussions about the situation of the copts in egypt. They are often threatened as second class citicens, are victims of religious motivated crimes like abduction, rape and forced conversions to islam.  finmad

    In germany and austria there had been some demonstrations against that situation.

    I wonder, what we could do to help those people. Maybe we could try to bring the topic more into the public?

    The same way Muslims made head-lines of the cartoon comics. Making a lot of noise. Not rioting of course. But demonstrations. And many of them. Until everybody is forced to pay attention.

    I guess sending this information out to churches and similar organizations and asking them to join in a demonstration.

    Yeah that as well. But I don't know if the Egyptian goverment cares.

    And point out to the Muslim bullies that there is no compulsion in religion, as stated by the Prophet himself and also that the Copts, being ahl-al-kitab are to be treated with respect.... Not that they would listen of course but if they could be shamed with their own scriptures I think it might help the situation a bit.

    Well, on one hand minorities (people) must of course be treatened well.

    On the other hand  - if islamic teachings and islamic behaviour are responsible for those crimes - this "good treatment of minorities" should probably not include the right to spread exactly those ideas in europe. It would be ironic to say "well, if islamic teachings are the cause of the pain of copts there, we simply are a good role model and tollerate the exact same teachings to be spread here".

    Or is that oppinion too extreme?

    But actually my question was about what we could do as individuals. Write to politicians? Or write to churches or mosques in europe? Or could a press statement of the council of exmuslims help?
