A bit less. Of course condoms give far more protection to the man and so much more protection to his partner that even to hint that such surgery is an effective option is bordering on the obscene.

Muhammad did not invent female circumcision either. This too was widely practised across Africa and Arabia before his time. Today the butchery of the genitals of young girls is widespread across Africa, practised by Muslims, practitioners of African traditional religions and Christians. Female Genital Mutilation is very common in Egypt and Ethiopia among Christians, it is nonsense to blame this on Muhammad.

However, female genital mutilation is now happening in Britain, and that is something we can blame Muhammad for. Of course it is thoroughly illegal to do such a thing to a girl and the law should deal with it as on a par with kidnap, rape and criminal mutilation. But it is a matter of cultural and religious sensitivity.

Cultural sensitivity be buggered. Anybody involved in this practice, including teachers and neighbours who fail to report it, should be charged with conspiracy to commit sexual assault and malicious maiming.

As far as it is physically possible to remove the potential for sexual pleasure from a woman with a bit of a sharp stone this is what they are trying to do. Calling it circumcision is a euphemism. It does not cut around the sex organs, it excises them. As a minimum the clitoral hood and the tip of the clitoris is removed. There is no tissue in the human body with as many touch-sensitive nerve cells in it as the tip of the clitoris. The only function of this tissue is to give sexual pleasure and to trigger orgasm. So to the mind of the control freak this has to go. A woman who enjoyed sex might want to do it, and if she wanted to do it she might want to do it with the wrong man. And if a woman had sex with the wrong man the sky might fall in.

Why would a god design something in order for it to be removed by people wielding chips of flint while holding down a struggling child? That is clear evidence that religion and gods are man-made. Men benefit from multiple wives who endure sex rather than enjoy it. Just men. There is no benefit to the woman at all, she has her potential for sexual pleasure removed and gains nothing in return, not even the respect of her husband, who regards her as his sexual property. I have come across Muslims trying to argue that female genital mutilation somehow protects woman against rape, how this is meant to work is beyond me.

There's no way he can be dismissed as being too stupid or ignorant to have been deceitful, he might have been illiterate, or dyslexic, but he was obviously both charismatic and intelligent. Idiots don't build empires. They sometimes run them, the names Caligula and George W Bush spring to mind, but they never build them. Founding an empire requires talent, intelligence, application, often charisma and ruthlessness: just think about Hitler, that is the kind of man who builds an empire.

naaah, she did not have children. In fact I always attributed that to her being married/raped in such a young age.

But if you think about it, when there was no contraceptives available at that time, with all those women around him to play with, and he had children with Khadija before when he was young, did Mo develop some sort of weakness in the sex department and started shooting blanks?

A better scientific examination of the sources has made clear that all symptoms of acromegaly are present with some psychopathological paranoid traits. Acromegaly is caused by a small tumour of the hypophysis, beginning most of the time about the fortieth year and ending in the sixtieth year with an apoplexy of the hypophysis.

According to the hadith Muhammad suffered from a long-lasting disease, which he treated by means of bleeding. He walked as somebody who comes down from a hill. His skin-colour was peculiar, not white, not too tanned, somewhat rosy. His eyebrows were conspicuous. He was sweating heavily, especially when he was receiving revelations. He heard the noise of bells and voices. He had a great appetite and suffered from hunger. Notwithstanding his sexual relations with ten young women, he remained quasi-sterile: one only child after the age of forty years. During his last illness he suffered from intense headaches, losses of consciousness, back- and intestinal pains. He died at the age of 62 years. Psychologically he was known as trustworthy, somewhat retiring and prude. Initially, about at the age of forty years, he was depressed, retiring, and showed a tendency to suicide. He spoke slowly. Most typical were his great hands, dough feeling palms, great feet, a long fleshy nose, well developed ears and a peculiar voice.

These indications suggest that he suffered from acromegaly. This hypothesis allows to explain almost all details found in the hadith.

Acromegaly is caused by an adenoma of the pituitary, which causes an increase in growth hormone (somatotropine) and usually a deficiency or increase of other hormones such as gonadotropine. The disease begins in adult persons about the fourth decade of age. Most patients die about the age of 60 years. It is a long-lasting disease with slow progress, sometimes burning out. Most patients tolerate it reasonably well. The melanophore hormones secreted by the pituitary cause a peculiar straw-yellow skin-colour. Excessive sweating is sometimes caused by hyperthyroidism. Sweating can be oily and have an unpleasant odour. Patients suffer from high blood pressure. Some hirsutism is observed (eyebrows). The growth of all extremities after adult age causes also the vertebrae to extend and the spine to curve. This extension can cause pain as the nerves suffer pressure. Especially typical is the enlargement of the fingers and the dough like feeling of the palms when shaking hands. Rarely a bleeding of the pituitary occurs and causes dead: this apoplexy of the pituitary causes headaches, nausea, vomiting, losses of consciousness. Psychologically patients suffer initially from depression, brooding and irritability, also an increase of appetite and a loss of libido. Some patients are anxious and are lacking in self-confidence. When the adenoma exerts pressure on the third ventricle and the optic chiasma in the brain the patients may suffer from hallucinoses. Uniformly these patients are trustworthy. Their personality is characterised by conscientiousness, reliability and industriousness.

Confronting this picture of the symptomatology of acromegaly with the tradition about Muhammad one can only state the conformity. Moreover one understands some other traits of the personality of Muhammad. He washed himself often, till two or tree times successively. He indulged in men's scents, such as musk and ambergris; he used to burn camphor on odoriferous wood. This is understandable. He smelled the unpleasant odour of his sweat, and did not want it to be perceived by others. The use of bleeding, as a treatment can be understood as a remedy against his high blood pressure. His polygamy and the incessant acquisition of new young women can be explained by his wish for a masculine child. His young sons were all dead. He adopted two sons. But a son of his own was for him an absolute must. As the pituitary influences fertility his acromegaly reduced considerably the spermatogenesis. Ten wives could only give birth to one only masculine child, which died early. Changing wives he tried desperately to engender that masculine child. He was not a sex-maniac. His death was probably caused by a pituitary apoplexy. Psychologically he was considered as a trustworthy person. Initially depressed and devoid of self-confidence, he considered suicide. He suffered from hallucinoses and even hallucinations.

For all the sex in the Quran and in Muhammad?s life, he had little to show for it. Only one surviving child, and no sons to carry on his legacy. The Sunni vs. Shiite rift is a direct consequence of Mohammad having no heir-apparent.

By comparison, let?s look at another well-known Arab family ? the bin Ladens. The patriarch of the family was Sheikh Mohammed bin Laden (died 1967). He had 22 wives and 55 children. From that start, there are now 600 descendants and their spouses. Osama bin Laden was his 17th child, and he went on to have five wives and twelve to twenty-four children. So, just between Osama and his father alone, they produced almost 80 children. The Prophet Muhammad had only one surviving child who died just six months after him.

This leads to another twist to the story of Muhammad?s sexual prowess, and it also implies that Muhammad was impotent. Muhammad?s nine surviving wives were quite young. Aiyisha, who he defrocked when she was nine and he was 54, was only eighteen when Muhammad died. The only wife who was not in her teens or twenties, was Sauda who was in her thirties when Muhammad died. Obviously, all of these women were still attractive and were still of child-bearing age. So was it an act of cruelty or an attempt to cover up his impotency when Muhammad?s wives forbidden to remarry after his death?

The Quran was quite explicit: ?The Prophet has a greater claim on the faithful than they have on each other. His wives are their mothers.? (Surah 33:6) Simply put, marrying a widow of Muhammad would be incest. This is reinforced in verse 53, which says, ?You must not speak ill of God?s apostle, nor shall you ever wed his wives after him; this would be a grave offence in the sight of God.? A more logical motive for this decree is that if the surviving widows began to have babies with their new husbands, it would be proof positive that Muhammad was indeed impotent. So these young women were condemned to spinsterhood for the rest of their lives.
