I think "gang" describes the ummah a lot better than cult. Cult seems to imply secrecy and sophistication. Muslims are not secretive or sophisticated about that shit.

Iblis has mad debaterin' skillz. Best not step up unless you're prepared to recieve da pain.

Well the deobandis I hung out with (very un-Western) certainly had a secretive side to them.

The unlived life is not worth examining.

Plus, don't you think Hizb-ut-Tahrir are a bit cultish? They come across as nice Western people saying they believe in democracy and share Western values, and saying most Muslims want a shariah and therefore they only want what most people want. Bullshit. They'd organize a coup if they could. They couldn't care less what number of Muslims want a shariah, they'd force it down their necks if they dared to resist.

Sure, there are various sects and groups like that. But I was meaning Islam as a whole, as a religion. It seems to operate like the crips more than it does like Scientology. Bang bang.

    I would go for Mafia

"Modern man's great illusion has been to convince himself that of all that has gone before he represents the zenith of human accomplishment, but can't summon the mental powers to read anything more demanding than emoticons. Fascinating. "

One very horny Turk I met on the net.
