  • US, Pakistan capture Taliban's top commander
     OP - February 16, 2010, 05:36 AM

    Quote
WASHINGTON — The Taliban’s top military commander was captured several days ago in Karachi, Pakistan, in a secret joint operation by Pakistani and American intelligence forces, according to American government officials.

The commander, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, is an Afghan described by American officials as the most significant Taliban figure to be detained since the American-led war in Afghanistan started more than eight years ago. He ranks second in influence only to Mullah Muhammad Omar, the Taliban’s founder and a close associate of Osama bin Laden before the Sept. 11 attacks.

Mullah Baradar has been in Pakistani custody for several days, with American and Pakistani intelligence officials both taking part in interrogations, according to the officials.

That is good news. Of course he will be replaced, but it's still a good thing. Afro

According to news he's taliban's number 2 after mullah omar. He's likely to have a lot of info about where other high level commanders are, possibly even bin laden. So i think this is significant.

Its also awesome that the pakistani ISI is cooperating with the CIA and going after the afghan taliban as well as pakistani taliban.

They are not serious, if you could be able to watch Pakistan media you would understand me. there is no condemnation of terrorism on Pakistan media, they are only spreading more and more confusion. These successes don't count until public opinion is seriously changed..

I'm not talking about any specific channel, but it's about how generally they cover the violent attacks and related events.

They don't name who are doing attacks, they don't criticize religious extremism in their discussions, they cover people more like Imran Khan and Munawar Hassan who prefer to criticize America rather than condemning the suicide attacks.

Further there is not even a single talk show on any channel which tries to look deep into the relationship between ISI and extremists. People are only made more confused by raising the terms like black water etc, so that no body knows who is doing the attacks.

Media is more involved with criticizing Zardari, rather than condemning those who are killing innocent people, whenever a suicide attack is covered you can't see anything except sensationalization, in short there is no serious journalism against the extremists..
