Interesting - I would have assumed the opposite to AbuY, particularly as this is what the scholars have come to understand from it - but I suppose in doubt  the way to get a better understanding of what was meant by this is by searching for the arabic word for "communications" elsewhere in the quran and see whether it is being used to describe the Bible/Torah or the Mecca verses.  I hope AbuY you are sincere in your quest to understand the quran "Allah" intended it, rather than the way it suits your conscience, and look this up.

I doubt it though, as it seems you halt further enquiry once you come to a personally comfortable answer, even if its contrary to the experts.  Although I can understand why you would want it to be so, otherwise it makes it look even more man-made as abrogation makes it look like God changes his mind and is not omnicient as the Quran originally claimed..

What muslims will do to convince themselves Islam the truth :le sigh:

Islame you really do talk nonsense sometimes - don't you find going round making assumptions about other people a little sad?

thankyou very much and i am sorry. Just ya i couldn't ever believe that religious texts come from "god" because of the nature os some verses, i do not think that women are regarded as equal in islam as they have different divorce rules, court rules etc.

Not at all, given our past history, I no longer expect or hope to receive responses from you.

Hence my judgements are based on my inferences of you as a character - I usually have a keen eye for these things and trust my impressions and instincts but if I am wrong and you have the time, then please do correct me.  It saves time that way and cuts out several to'ing & fro'ing steps.  Rather than sad, I think its pretty efficient & innovative..

Ok, maybe your assumptions about me are in part at least my fault. When I started on this forum I did my best to answer every single one of your questions. However, whenever I answered your questions you would then ask 10 more questions - there is nothing wrong in this but I found it a bit heavy going especially with questions being asked by other members. I found you relentless and the number of questions you would ask far outnumbered what I was being asked by other members. As I have always just intended to be just an occasional poster on here I knew I had to stop responding to you sooner or later otherwise I would be spending half my life on here - it was nothing personal. I don't know if this makes me rude or whatever - but I do have my priorities in terms of how I manage my personal time.

    Regards

No, I think the crux of the problem here is how you handle conflict or sticky situations, but nevermind, I cant be bothered going into it.

I don't know about Abu, but I was aware of this site since 6 months ago... I was not interested in joining until I saw Hassan's videos... I fell in love with the guy and came here hoping I'd be lucky enough to converse with him...

I looked into his dark eyes and was entranced as well...... wait what are we talking about?

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I have to say that I've never ever beleived that any verses of the Quran were ever abrogated. The idea of abrogation of course comes from the following verse:

''Whatever communications We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring one better than it or like it. Do you not know that Allah has power over all things?''
    2:106

When I first read this verse I thought it was referring to earlier scriptures and there has been nothing since that has ever made me think otherwise.

5:45: We ordained therein (the Torah) for them: "Life for life, eye for eye, nose for nose, ear for ear, tooth for tooth, and wounds equal for equal." But if any one remits the retaliation by way of charity, it is an act of atonement for himself. And if any fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (No better than) wrong-doers.

2:178: O ye who believe! the law of equality is prescribed to you in cases of murder: the free for the free, the slave for the slave, the woman for the woman. But if any remission is made by the brother of the slain, then grant any reasonable demand, and compensate him with handsome gratitude, this is a concession and a Mercy from your Lord. After this whoever exceeds the limits shall be in grave penalty.

Hassan, comments like that are simply part and parcel of the mentality that islam (and other religions) breed. With islam though, it seems to be a huge problem of thinking that muslims are somehow theologically superior than the others. It seems as though whatever the outcome of the test that Allah sets, he always wins!

Surely this is a problem with HUMANITY, not just Muslims/Theists. If you adopt belief x instead of belief y, you do so because you think that x is superior to y. You believe that the arguments for x, the proof for x, the veracity of x far outweighs the proofs, arguments and veracity of y.

You can substitue x and y for just about any philosophical/religious/economic/political position.
