  • I really wish you'd bring back the "QUOTE" button
     OP - February 25, 2010, 01:22 PM

    I know Oz is going to be as stubborn as ever about this - but this is just my opinion - I think having the quote button for the last post is so much easier and stops confusion.

    Now it's gone - these two things always happen to me:

    1. I post a response and find that someone else posted a response and so my response looks like it is to them and not the one I meant.

    2. I scroll down on the reply page to click quote (what I THINK is the) last post - not realising that someone has already responded and so I'm quoting their response by mistake.

    This happens all the time - when all I needed to do before was click the quote button.

    But ah yes - we don't want to keep quoting stuff when it's not necessary - right? WTF? - who cares? I'd much rather that than the inconvenience this has caused.

    Just my humble opinion of course - Of course I realise other opinions are more important than mine on this.

    I agree. Maybe we should get a poll going to see how many people would like it back.

    But all you have to do is click quick reply and quote whatever you like from the last post.  Its much handier than having people quote a big long wall of text from the post just above their's only to post a damn smiley or a +1 or something in response.

    I still have a quote button.

    But if you click on quick reply the page doesn't reload, so that particular mistake is impossible.

    Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll see quick reply with an arrow pointing down.  Click on that and it brings up a reply box without reloading the page, so you can quote whatever you like without the risk of cross posting with anyone else.

    Uh, how? I see the button for the quote tags but not a method for quoting specific posts.

    Just highlight whatever part of the text you want to respond to and copy/paste it into quote tags.

    Accidentally quoting the wrong person because they've posted while you were loading the reply page.

    Yeah but that's not the same function Hassan is referring to-- it doesn't automatically post who the quote is from and provide a link back to the original post.

    No, but it doesn't really need to if the post you're responding to is directly above yours, that's why the quote button was only removed from the last post in every thread.

    Okay, yeah, but if you just use regular reply then click on "Quote this post" it has the same effect that Hassan is looking for and it only takes one extra click of the mouse than if the quote button were still on the latest post in the thread.

    fuck you

    True, but Hass was complaining that when he did that he sometimes ended up quoting the wrong person because someone else had posted while he was loading the reply page.

    I dont know what Hassan means, you cant quote anyone other than who you mean to quote, as you have to physically go to the post and click quote..

    You dont even have to use quick reply, if you do a normal reply and you can then quote the poster directly underneath by clicking on the quote button on the top right corner of their post?

    But that doesnt happen, or at least it doesnt happen with me. If I understood your original post correctly, then I dont understand as you can only quote the poster you click "quote" on.

    You are saying that arent you? - that when you click quote, and someone replies afterwards, that the system ends up replacing the original quote with the someone elses?  All this before you have even refreshed the page  ?

    No. What he means is that if someone replies while the post template is loading then the top quote link wont be for the person he wanted to reply to, so if he clicks it without making sure nobody has jumped in he gets the wrong result.

    Hi, this would be really convenient to have, my vote goes for it too!

    Yes I know it would be really convenient. That is precisely why it was removed. It is far too convenient and people just blindly use it regardless of the circumstances. There has been a lot less crap to scroll past since it was removed.  Wink

    Mate just add a scroll bar to the quote box and that'll solve the problem of the long scrolls like we discussed the other day. Its a simple 1 line css with overflow:auto; and a fixed height.

    It helps when someone is responding to someone in particular to quote their post or the relevant parts of it.
  • Re: I really wish you'd bring back the "QUOTE" button
     Reply #25 - February 27, 2010, 07:44 AM

    Ok, just for you I'll set it to:

    .quote {
    margin: 1px;
    padding: 2px;
    font-size: 11px;
    line-height: 1.4em;
    color: #ffffff;
    background: #ffffff;
    height: 1px;
    overflow: hidden;
    border-top: 1px solid #A90329;
    border-left: 1px solid #A90329;
    border-bottom: 1px solid #A90329;
    margin: 1px;
    padding: 2px;
    font-size: 11px;
    line-height: 1.4em;
    }

    As has been explained more than once, you can already quote their post or the relevant parts of it.  Afro
