     OP - February 28, 2010, 02:01 PM

Everybody knows that in Islam, a woman is not supposed to pluck or shape her eyebrows as it comes under the ruling of altering Allah's creation.  See fatwa here:

    http://www.islamonline.net/servlet/Satellite?cid=1235477843556&pagename=IslamOnline-English-Ask_Scholar%2FFatwaE%2FFatwaEAskTheScholar

Now, my question is, if plucking the eyebrows is seen is altering Allah's creation, wouldn't that also mean that circumcision of both males and females and the mandatory removal of pubic hair and armpit hair be also seen as altering the creation of Allah?

Why is it that removing the hair from one part of the body is seen as ok but to remove it from another part of the body is altering what Allah created?

Allah also created the clitoris and the foreskin but to remove these is not altering the human body?!?!

I think this is a subject that needs debate within the Ummah as there is no logic to it whatsoever!

Sheikh Muhammad Iqbal Nadvi, Imam of Calgary Mosque, Canada, and Former Professor at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia, states the following:

"There is nothing in the Shari`ah which prohibits removing hair from inside the nose. The only prohibition occurs for plucking eyebrows. The reason for this prohibition is that plucking eyebrows is considered an artificial change in the Creation of Allah, and it was always a way of excessive adornment of the pre-Islamic period or jahiliyyah. Thus, there is nothing wrong in removing hair inside the nose."

The owner of the salon I go to went to a Halaqa last Ramadhan and was told that eyebrow plucking is haram, so she forbade to the girls who work on the salon to do it to the clientele. That created a bit of uproar, and even the girls started preaching to the women about how it was evil to do it. What I find a bit weird, though, is that the lady didn't forbid bikini waxing.

Perhaps, but it's clearly said that a woman can't look at another woman's 'awra, isn't?

They don't. They just commit sin. Many women aren't aware of that rule anyway.

Naaaaa guys, this is what I don't understand. So plucking a few eyebrow hairs is considered deforming and mutilating Allah's creation, but plucking 200+ armpit hairs, which is allowed, is NOT deforming Allah's creation? Something is wrong here Thinking hard

Umm, its plucking for adornment v. plucking for hygiene, right? Sorta devils advocatey there  grin12. Still stupid though, they`re both still ''artificial changes''. An even better contradiction is how there are plastic surgery centers in Saudi where you can get your nose done. Freakin clerics and doctors actually sat down and decided it was OK, while shit like plucking is so damn haram  Roll Eyes.

Oh man! I know sooooo many women that get their eyebrows plucked.

Again the stupid ummah falls prey to ancient ideologies and tries to adopt them. O well as long as the pubes and the pits dont stink up the place bushy eyebrows should be ok lol.

Indeed there is no logic to any of this. For some reason the hadiths regarding eyebrows really bothered me. The more I thought about it the more I questioned all of the prohibitions. At first I ceased to rigidly follow them and then I left Islam all together. Continuing to practice Islam meant that I would have to shut down my mind and I was unable to do that.
