On Monday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif announced he had given his approval to rename the National Centre for Physics at Islamabad’s Quaid-e-Azam University after Dr Abdus Salam, who in 1979 became Pakistan’s first ever Nobel laureate by winning the prestigious international award in the physics category

The premier also approved a grant of five annual fellowships in Dr Salam’s name at overseas universities for Pakistani doctoral candidates in physics.
That it has taken nearly four decades for this country to honour a globally renowned scientist who was one of its own, is a sad reflection of the priorities that hold sway here, and that have diminished our standing in the world.
For Dr Salam was an Ahmadi, a persecuted minority in Pakistan, and his faith rather than his towering achievements was the yardstick by which he was judged.

CII decries naming QAU physics centre after Dr Abdus SalamChairing the last session as the head of Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) on Thursday, Maulana Mohammad Khan Sherani decried the proposal to rename the Quaid-i-Azam University's (QAU) physics centre after Professor Abdus Salam.
The council discussed the proposal after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif forwarded a summary to President Mamnoon Hussain of his approval to rename the National Centre for Physics at QAU the “Professor Abdus Salam Centre for Physics”.
Addressing a press conference after the council's meeting, the CII chairman said changing the department's name would not set the right precedent.
“We have concerns over the change of its [physics centre's] name as it was earlier named to honour Dr Riaz,” said Sherani, but declined to offer any reason for the opposition.
He was also asked if the CII had objections over renaming of other institutions or roads but Sherani declined to offer any comment over the subject...
that is what that Bearded baboon says on renaming a building to honor the only Physics Noble Laureate Prof. Abdus Salam just because he was Ahmadi Muslim .. Ship all these baboons from Pakistan to that sand land..Let them eat sand and roam in hot sand until they burn their ass
