Well I never.  I always assumed his strongly anti-American stance was religiously motivated.

No not at all. It is all becasue of America's strong support to Israel.

Actually, I do like the Guy becasue he obviously knows the truth about religion. He uses Islam when it suits him, but hey don't they say: To the common man religion is true, To the wise it is false, and to the rulers it is useful? So he is doing just that.  Afro

Anyways, he has said many things about the Quran before that angered the both the local street, and the Arabic and Muslim nation alike. He once said that there are some Suras in the quran that are obviously not for us, and only meant for the prophet, so he asks why we still recite them?

If I find some videos that are subtitled, I will post them here.

wtf?  please do, I am glad you are out in the open about where you are from so we can lose our ignorance/prejudices about Libya at last.  Are you the only one from there?  So what do you think Gadaffi really believes?

The best thing that he said recently, that KSA is monopolizing Mecca by not allowing other nations and religions to visit. He says that Surat Al-Haj, verse 27 clearly states that Haj (Mecca) is for all people, otherwise it would have said "only Muslims":

    وَأَذِّن فِي النَّاسِ بِالْحَجِّ يَأْتُوكَ رِجَالًا وَعَلَىٰ كُلِّ ضَامِرٍ يَأْتِينَ مِن كُلِّ فَجٍّ عَمِيقٍ ﴿٢٧﴾

Announce the Pilgrimage to the people. They will come to you on foot and riding along distant roads on lean and slender beasts, (27)

I know he is sometimes winding up the Saudi's, but he has said many true things about religion that tells he really knows the truth. He is sometimes using it to control the masses.

He forbids marriage for girls before the age of 18. It is punishable by law. Obviously, against Islamic pedophelia. He is trying to prohibit poligmy and the 4 wifes marriage thingy. He has granted women (who get a divorce), the custody of their children and the house. The husband only gets his suitcase.

Wasn't it Gaddafi who said Islam will conquer Europe, this time through immigration and higher birth rates?

Basicaly, he says Saudi Arabia has no right to forbid Jews and Christians to visit Mecca. He said the Kabba is 2000 years before Mohamed. It was way before Islam. Haj is a pre-Islamic rituals... etc etc

Why are non-Muslims not allowed in Mecca, and what would they do to them if they get in anyway?

It's OK.  I can understand basic arabic.
I suppose he is useful for us in our fight against Islam because he is annoying to the Saudis and other arab countries.  Like a cat amongst the pigeons.

Why would he say such crap about Muslims taking over Europe if he was a moderate then?

He seems like a loose cannon who will say anything to be controversial. I also don't think dictators of any kind are the sort of people to ally with at all.

I agree.  I'm just saying a multi-pronged approach against Islam is no bad thing.  We do our bit without showing any kind of support for Gaddafi.

Not publicly no, that would be very dangerous for him. I believe he is a closet atheist. One good thing about him, he got rid of alqaida and Islamic fundies in Libya. So Libya is a very safe country as compared to other countries near by.

I don't give a rat's ass about what he believes. I am more interested in how he is actually running the country. I heard he does a pretty crap job. So what you say RIBS?

Thanks to religion, our society is not ready yet for democracy. An iron fist is useful sometimes. It is sad but true. If there is a weaker government, you would be hearing about people blowing themselves Up in the market and terrorize the citizens. I prefere a safer country where firearms could get you in person for nobody knows how long.

Yes, I get that.  Like Bernard Shaw when he said the problem with democray was that it measured the weight of people by numbers & not by their minds.

As compared to which president from the Muslim world? He is 10 times better than George Bush, that much I can tell you. And Bush was the president of the most democratic country in the universe, right?

From what I hear, Lybians have good standards of living, compared to other Arab/African/Islamic countries. It doesn't sound like Gaddafi is doing such a crappy job running the country.

An Lybians don't need visas to travel to Europe, do they?  Cry

No they do Naerys. Here take a look:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schengen_visa#Schengen_visa

Basically ALL Arab and Muslim countries nationals (except Malaysians) need pre-travel visas to Europe, the US, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand.

    The only exceptions are:
1)Malaysians can travel to Europe, Australia and New Zealand without pre-travel visas: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_requirements_for_Malaysian_citizens
2)Nationals of the GCC countries (Gulf Cooperation Council) can travel to New Zealand without pre-travel visas.

You Algerians have more travel freedom than us Iraqis though. In fact post-war Iraq is one of the bottom 3 countries on the travel freedom index.
