    http://www.the-south-asian.com/April2001/Parsis-Ritual,Customs%20&%20Manners.htm

The sudrah (shirt), to be worn next to the skin, is made of white cotton, usually thin muslin, (white being a symbol of stainlessness and purity Cheesy) to remind the wearer that his/her deeds must be as pure and spotless as the sacred shirt they are wearing. The sudrah is made up of two pieces of cloth sewn together on the sides; the two parts, the back and the front symbolic of the past and future. In the front, over the chest is a small pocket (girehban).

Its called the pocket of righteousness Cheesy

The kusti, the sacred cord, made of seventy-two threads  Cheesy of lambswool, is entwined thrice around the waist, again symbolically reminding the wearer of the holy triad of good words, thoughts and deeds. The untying and retying of the kusti, accompanied by the kusti prayers, is always done facing the direction of a source of light: the sun, the moon or a lamp. Cheesy Along with the sudrah, the kusti is the 'badge' of all believers, male or female, rich or poor, priest or layman.Cheesy

Their worship of fire is the highest and purest symbol of the Divinity. Cheesy

Upon physical death (which is seen as the temporary triumph of evil Cheesy, the soul will be judged at the Bridge of the Separator Cheesy, where the soul, it is believed, will receive its reward or punishment, depending upon the life which it has led in this world

The Parsis have remained faithful to their Zoroastrian faith and are proud of their racial purity. Marriage with outsiders is rare. A male member of the bride's and groom's side of the family plants a mango tree, so you know what to buy Zorastrian for a wedding gift Cheesy

According to a text here, it is believed that by observing how your dead relative is eaten by vultures, you can know about his soul's future.

If the right eye of the dead body is first eaten, then the soul will go to Paradise. If the left eye is eaten first, then the soul is sent to Hell.

Women during mentruation are not allowed to look at water or fire because water and fire are considered sacred and would be "polluted" when looked upon by unclean women.

    Quote
Just as the Iranian women maintain seclusion at the time of delivery, so also, during menses, they sit aloof and do not touch anything. They eat food with a spoon, and the vessels used are always kept separately and as far as possible from each other. They do not allow their gaze to fall on fire, water or a pious man. In order not to get bored sitting in a corner, they go from one house to another, but as far as possible. they are careful to avoid touching bricks or wood or stepping on them, and all those undergoing menses from different houses meet at a predetermined place and get together; then, after four to five hours, they all go to their respective houses. In this way they maintain isolation until the period of menses is over, when they have a head bath. The clothes of that period are washed with nirang and water and then put to use. Some take up embroidery, stitching or knitting during menses and when they take a bath to purify themselves, they also wash these items and make them pure.

    Zoroastrians love cocks  Tongue

"The holiness of the cock, the bird of Sraosha, who awakes the world for prayer and for the protection of Atar"

"The cock is 'the drum of the world.' As crowing in the dawn that dazzles away the fiends, he crows away the demons: 'The cock was created to fight against the fiends and wizards; ... he is with the dog an ally of Srosh against demons' - 'No demon can enter a house in which there is a cock; and, above all, should this bird come to the residence of a demon, and move his tongue to chant the praises of the glorious and exalted Creator, that instant the evil spirit takes to flight'

A little bit of Zoroastrian tolerance:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Jerusalem_%28614%29#Aftermath

    Quote
Shortly after the Persian army entered Jerusalem, unprecedented looting and sacrilege took place. Church after church was burned down alongside the innumerable Christian artifacts, which were stolen or damaged by the ensuing arson.[1]  But Persia's most devastating crime in the eyes of the Byzantines was the capture of the True Cross and its removal to Ctesiphon  as a battle-captured holy relic.[1]  The human toll of Jerusalem's razing was also catastrophic, some 90,000 Christian citizens are said to have perished in the sacking,[1]  as a result not only of the Persian army's actions, but also of the free hand given to the Jews by Shahrbaraz.

    Another story of Zoroastrian tolerance:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazdakism#Opposition_to_and_purge_of_Mazdaki_adherents

    Quote
He allowed Anushiravan to launch a campaign against the Mazdakis in 524 or 528, culminating in a massacre killing most of the adherents, including Mazdak himself and restoring orthodox Zoroastrianism as state religion.[7]  Various fictionalized accounts[10]  specify the way of death: e.g. the Shahnameh  states that the three thousand Mazdakis were buried alive with the feet upwards in order to present Mazdak with the spectacle of a "human garden", whereas Mazdak himself was hanged upside down and shot with countless arrows; other stories specify other torturous methods of execution. Anushiravan then proceeded to implement his own far-reaching social and administrative reforms.

Whoa. Zoroastrians are not a race. And those kinds of acts were common for that era. I'm just trying to point out that Zoroastrians are no exceptions and they certainly weren't tolerant humanists or pacifists.

EDIT: Hmm, actually.. Zoroastrians can sort of be considered a race given their restrictive and Aryan centered lineage and customs. After all it is a purely Iranian ethnic religion. I guess Zoroastrians were like the original Nazis. lol

    Quote
    14. Let no man alone by himself carry a corpse. If a man alone by himself carry a corpse, the Nasu(demon) rushes upon him, to defile him, from the nose of the dead, from the eye, from the tongue, from the jaws, from the sexual organs, from the hinder parts. This Druj Nasu falls upon him, [stains him] even to the end of the nails, and he is unclean, thenceforth, for ever and ever.

    15. O Maker of the material world, thou Holy one! What shall be the place of that man who has carried a corpse [alone]? Ahura Mazda answered: 'It shall be the place on this earth wherein is least water and fewest plants, whereof the ground is the cleanest and the dryest and the least passed through by flocks and herds, by the fire of Ahura Mazda, by the consecrated bundles of Baresma, and by the faithful.'

    16. O Maker of the material world, thou Holy one! How far from the fire? How far from the water? How far from the consecrated bundles of Baresma? How far from the faithful?

    17. Ahura Mazda answered: 'Thirty paces24 from the fire, thirty paces from the water, thirty paces from the consecrated bundles of Baresma, three paces from the faithful.

18,19. 'There, on that place, shall the worshippers of Mazda erect an enclosure, and therein shall they establish him with food, therein shall they establish him with clothes, with the coarsest food and with the most worn-out clothes. That food he shall live on, those clothes he shall wear, and thus shall they let him live, until he has grown to the age of a Hana, or of a Zaurura, or of a Pairishta-khshudra (an old man).

20,21. 'And when he has grown to the age of a Hana, or of a Zaurura27, or of a Pairishta-khshudra, then the worshippers of Mazda shall order a man strong, vigorous, and skilful, to cut the head off his neck, in his enclosure on the top of the mountain: and they shall deliver his corpse unto the greediest of the corpse-eating creatures made by the beneficent Spirit, unto the vultures, with these words: "The man here has repented of all his evil thoughts, words, and deeds. If he has committed any other evil deed, it is remitted by his repentance: if he has committed no other evil deed, he is absolved by his repentance, for ever and ever."'

Depends, you tend to find that many of the Zorastrianism texts from the later periods are a lot more conservative than the early ones which has led westernised Zorastrians to conclude that they were added later for the sake of political expediency.

With that being said, those parts of the world hardly have a reputation as so far as equality for females and so on. It reminds me of the issue of hadiths, and I wonder how many fabricated hadiths are as a result of these influences. Obviously you can't change the Qur'an without everyone knowing what you've done but why not create a hadith collection and then just start pulling in what people say claiming that Muhammad said it?

Which kinda goes back to what I said about Islam and the Qur'an; the Qur'an by itself when viewed in context is pretty benign when compared to the tanakh. The big problem, however, come from the hadith/sunnah and how fiqh is formulated and the almost deification that many Muslims give to the four imam's and scholars from today and yesterday.

I dont think you can let the quran off that easily. Its not just the hadiths that make it look bad.  The problem is the context, consistency and the concentration of these words in the quran.  Thats what makes it

Here are some stats that I plucked out of my arse, but are broadly true from when I read it

This is the real problem as far as I'm concerned, and you wont get this from any other scriptural texts.

(52%) - over half of these verses is vitriol aimed at infidels.
    (17%) - deal with Allah
    (15%) - deal with believers/non-believers
(12%) - deal with Day of Judgment or Day of Doom
(4%) ... is a good verse. (Do not steal from the poor / Give to the poor etc)

Just 4%, only 4%, is not based around vitriol, ego or retalliation.  Kinda like Islamic culture today  Cheesy

But this is a thread designed to examine the truth behind Zorastrianism, so if you want to discuss this further then you could always copy these posts and start another thread on it Afro
