Brilliant stuff! Thanks for sharing. Imho the second video is the best of the three – very emotional.

Wow I liked all three, I liked the second one especially and the third one for patriotic reasons.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Me too.  Especially those who would like to rewrite history and show America's founders as hard core Christians.

Eisenhower did the pledge and the addition to the dollar, though the slogan had been on coins since the Civil War.

Even when I was a theist I agreed with what Teddy Roosevelt said ""My own feeling in the matter is due to my very firm conviction that to put such a motto on coins, or to use it in any kindred manner, not only does no good but does positive harm, and is in effect irreverence, which comes dangerously close to sacrilege... it seems to me eminently unwise to cheapen such a motto by use on coins, just as it would be to cheapen it by use on postage stamps, or in advertisements."

I always thought that it never had to be printed on any paper or pledge if it were true.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

I doubt it though.  He is already perceived by some as a either a Godless communist or a Muslim.  Changing the dollar would just validate some people's fears while not getting much back politically, especially after health care.  Though it would be the right thing to do.

It's very unlikely. Although I do have hope for America in the regard. There will always be born-again evangelicals, in fact their numbers are likely to increase but my hope is that atheists/agnostics will increase in number and become more vocal.

It reminds me of what my Italian friend said.  Rich guys don't have to say they are rich they just are.  Usually the ones who say it are the broke ass ones. If a country trusts in God it doesn't have to say it, it just does.

That if Americans REALLY trusted God they wouldn't have to stick the motto on their money.   Instead it is like " Hey everyone look at us! We trust in God! Over here, big God trusters! Make way!" More for other people to see ( especially those godless communists) than true commitment.

No I understood that. I get what your Italian friend meant and I get the analogy. I just didn' see a direct connection b/t your post and the quote of mine that you included.

Anyway, I agree with you. Communism was a big threat at the time and the only that the politicians had to rally the people behind was religion.
It's very upsetting that the first modern secular nation ends up like this. It also annoys me when far-right conservatives like Chuck Baldwin who pretend that they only care about the constitution and the founding fathers are usually the ones most vehemently for these religious symbols.
