How are stupid people not mentally challenged?

As in physically impaired with a congenital problem, I hope you knew that as this was the context we were talking about.

I gotta agree with Kenan on this one. Using 'retard' is no different to using the word 'gay', they've both become commonly accepted to mean something else in certain contexts. Of course not everyone will feel comfortable with the use of that word but the same thing was experienced when people started to use the word 'gay'.

I've used the word 'retard' and never connected it to the mentally disabled. Speaking of which 'disabled' is also being used as insults these days, and I know the majority of the people who use it that way (at least the ones I know) don't mean it as an offence towards the disabled. It's just another figure of speech, and something that comes down to context.

so if someone is stupid / has a low IQ, there's no physical reasons for it?

Just think how bad a disabled homosexual black person feels about all this. You heartless dogs.

no, sometimes there is a physical reason for it.  But I thought we were talking about common use of the term, such as when you call you're friend it

nor were the people that I just gave in that example  Huh?

Because the same elementary logic applies?

Calling somebody an ethiopian, if they are skinny.  Calling somebody a spastic or a spas if they have a strange walk or hand gestures.

I wouldn't call somebody an Ethiopian in case they were really skinny and I wouldn't call somebody a spaz in case they suffered from strange hand gesture and I wouldn't call somebody a retard in case they were in fact retarded.
    Does it make sense?
Besides I am not sure if you have experienced death threats IRL. They tend to make a person really angry.

Thats the thing - I am not confortable calling people disabled or handicapped,  if they say something silly or have a funny way of walking/talking either..

I dont know why the word context keeps being brought into this.  I know you lot arent suggesting calling a disabled person retard lol.

Then tell the person, however people aren't going to go around watching what they say in case someone gets offended (unless you live in the UK where offending minorities unintentionally is illegal thanks to our PC-obsessed government Roll Eyes )

I thought this was simple? Everyone has already provided example where they call their friend 'nigga' or 'ethiopian' and none of them found it offensive. However using it as an insult is offensive. That is the basic context.

So why pick 'retarted', why not pick 'stupid' since both have physical/mental reasons outside their control responsible for their conditions?

Ye, it is offensive, I have used many of those words but usually in a joking way without thought. Although it doesn't make it right.

However not many people seem to care and it's not a grave wrong-doing so it does not bother me that much. I would add though as long as there is no ill intent behind the remark, then it's not really a bad thing, amongst friends.

"The ideal tyranny is that which is ignorantly self-administered by its victims. The most perfect slaves are, therefore, those which blissfully and unawaredly enslave themselves."

I should add, to me whores/sluts is more offensive.

When a male member here says he likes whores/sluts, the context is the same as saying "I like retards, they are so easy to use because they are so stupid"

    Uh?

I think it's more like saying "I like girls who have sex easily" :\

I don't see what the problem is with whore/slut. I think what really is the problem that Berbs might have is that it's used discriminatingly for women only. Perhaps that word needs to become unisex. There are plenty of man whores and sluts too. I aspire to be one myself. I'm making mediocre progress.

The problem is for the most part there is a Mother Mary/ Mary Magdalene complex in Western society and imagine 1000000000000000000X worse in Middle Eastern countries were a women can only be a pure innocent virgin or a dirty nasty slut.  For most societies there isn't a mental picture of a women who is pure and nice and enjoyable to be around but also enjoys sex throughly.  It is changing quickly in the last 40+ years but there still is 2000 years of social inertia to overcome.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Well, it's true that when it's used as an insult, it's used in a sexist way.
But if a male claims he likes sluts, it's kinda obvious that he's not using it to discriminate negatively, since it's not used as an insult.

I really dislike the use of the word 'motherfucker' and I can't believe that it's so commonly used, especially in lyrics of rap songs.

Some people ever refer to themselves as a motherfucker.  "I'm a bad motherfucker, yeah!!!"  Roll Eyes

Seriously though, you must have a pretty perverted mind if you use that word.

Too bad most males are irresistibly attracted to what they perceive as "dirty nasty sluts", but culture tells them it's so wrong so they are tortured by their own delusions, and end up hating what they are attracted to :S
