@IslamicMythology - It's not up to you to interpret Islam the way you want. Their understanding of Islam is the correct one. (Sound familiar Wink )

Sorry mate you are still a potential terrorist in the eyes of these guys.

If you desire or understand that Islam seeks Islamic rule, in a small sense, you are already a terrorist to those who do not wish to be ruled by Islam, in that you are their enemy simply for that reason. The core doctrine of Islam is the insistence that Islam's law being the prevailing one. To not do everything you can to make this happen, is to not be a pious Muslim. When ever I ask whether Muslims must seek Islamic rule everywhere or not, Muslims always fall silent, because they know I'm speaking the truth. The terrorists are actually right and are the real Muslims.

I have been made victorious through terror.

You know if SnB, BinLyin, and the rest of these FFI extremists had been born Muslims they would definitely be hard-core Salafis or Hizbi followers.

I think people are divided more along character types than nationality/race/beliefs/religion etc... People's imprint their own character on their religion/beliefs - and can turn whatever religion/belief in to something extreme and harsh - or benign and humane.

All the years I was a Muslim I was exactly the same character I am now. If you met me then and met me now you wouldn't say I was any different except that I said my prayers, didn't drink or eat bacon etc... I never subscribed to extremist views and there is no way on earth I would have become a terrorist. It simply wasn't in my character. I have no doubt ppl like Abu Yunus, IslamMythology, Debunker and all the decent Muslims I know in real life are much the same.

Sure, they stamp their own humanity on Islam - but that's what all people do to whatever religion/beliefs they have - their personality defines their beliefs and not the other way around.

I think extremist, authoritarian, and fanatically obsessive character types are thankfully always in the minority - but they are basically the same no matter whether they are Muslim or non-Muslim and these FFI guys have exactly the same - hardline, extremist, "my way or the highway" - feel to them as the hardline Salafi types I used to debate on ummah.com.

    The irony!

So we should discard liberal democracy? Are you calling for a dictatorship of some sort?

I'm not calling for anything, I'm making the choices clear, rather than confusing them. Reality does not care about people's ideas and how intellectual they are, or how sensitive they are or how enlightened they are. I think it's already over at this point because the solutions to this problem are just too unsavory for us modern, non barbaric people. and so, the fate is sealed, as history has told us as well. It really would take some very radical action at this point to reverse this trend, and people such as yourself are simply not willing to do this. congratulations, I hope you love the Europe your children will live in. i hope you love when your grand kids go to school and are taught that your lifestyle and values were horrible.

I'd like to think I've moved beyond religion and merely used it as a spring board.

No, I think it's actually in the Quran, and not just their own stamp.

    .

Yes, it's the guys at FFI that are blowing up Mosques, not Muslims. Everybody knows how much guys at FFI love to scream Akllahu Akbar before they behead someone.

I think people are divided more along character types than ideology. People's imprint their own character on their religion/beliefs - and can turn whatever religion/belief in to something extreme and harsh - or benign and humane.

Or they can use religion as a stepping stone to move past it

You are calling for something. You are saying everyone is confused, and over intellectualism will result in the downfall of society. The natural corrective to this is a reduction of intellectualism and a programme to deal with issue away from intellectualism, because you have no faith that liberal secular democracy can defend itself, or that it contains the tools for doing so.

Yes, I have no faith it can do this, because liberal democracy actually happens to be the main, and actually, only, enabler of this problem. And by the way, democracy is not necessarily "liberal" democracy, so quit painting it that way by default. Perhaps it's the "liberal" part that created this problem in the first place. But once again, it's the "I know better than you" attitude that many liberals mistakenly have. And I have already showed you the current result of "liberal" democracy melting these people in. It's not going to work and you're naive to think so. Or, maybe the melting in IS going to work, and result in a far more Muslim society. Congratulations, that's what you're leaving for your kids. Maybe you should be smart enough to not have any.  grin12

Right - so what are you suggesting should be done - please enunciate your programme for dealing with it outside the remit of liberal secular democracy. Don't be shy, and don't decry without an alternative. Thanks.

Depends on if you wish to keep British culture as it is. You can certainly choose to sell it out to avoid inconvenient strife. That's what Britain HAS been doing Personally, I LOVE British culture and it's sure going to be a shame to watch it slowly wash away.

    - please enunciate your programme for dealing with it outside the remit of liberal secular democracy. Don't be shy, and don't decry without an alternative. Thanks.

Again, "liberal" and "democracy" are not tied together. At most, socialism can be tied to liberalism. What to do? What some of the other European countries with larger Muslims are already trying to do, perhaps too late. Make life very very uncomfortable for their ways and give them no appeasements whatsoever, and hopefully, they will WANT to leave. It's either that, or population control methods, which seems even more unsavory and less democratic to me.

Well then go ahead and get me banned. If that's the kind of "free speech" place this is, then why should I even waste my time? Do it now, because you'll only get more of the same from me. I am a very direct speaker and I do not mix words, and I think the world needs more of this rather than all of the "cloudy" , politically correct complications that people suffer from. Nothing wrong with the truth said in a simple, direct manner.

    Capisce?

I can't get anyone banned - I'm just saying that personal comments are frowned upon and can lead to that. By all means carry on with that kind of rhetoric, it doesn't add to the discussion and is discourteous. Comprendez, Mr Direct Speaker?

Liberalism and democracy very much go together. It is liberalism that allows us to define the rights of the individual, the relationship between individuals and the state, between individuals and religion, between dissent and rejection of ideas, our freedoms, our secular culture. If it wasn't for liberalism our democracy would not have developed in the way that it has.

Anyway, thanks for making your ideas about what to do plain.

Well engaging any mythology isn't just about collecting conclusions. I definitely find more than 5th grade common sense in Islamic tradition/mythology. I think ur problem is that you have never experienced deeply religious, deeply spiritual Muslims.

Secondly, Muhammad has plenty of sayings that are along the lines of what you quoted from Jesus. What you fail to realize in your example is that Jesus didn't abrogate the Torah, and the Torah is FULL of all sorts of harsh teachings, even harsher than Islam. Do you realize that Islam was heavily created from Judaism and Christianity? I really don't think you know what you're talking about.

A bit of a side issue but............

while technically Jesus did not abrogate the Torah as such, he did render it largely irrelevant. Note that here I am expressing the Christian viewpoint rather than my own.

Yes there are many fundamentalists, like southern Baptists, who place a strong emphasis on the Old Testament laws but in traditional and global terms this is not a mainstream Christian position. That position has always been that Jesus rendered the application of the old laws unnecessary, and after his arrival salvation would be achieved by grace rather than by following the old laws.

So although not abrogated as such, the Old Testament is seen as basically a historical relic rather than a prescription for daily life.

Devious, treacherous, murderous, neanderthal, sub-human of the West. bunny

Sure they do. They aren't a prerequisite for Christianity though. They also have nothing to do with all the harsh and ridiculous OT stuff that people aim their criticisms at.
