    Kaffir Latte, I note your signature is in chinese.  Do you or anyone else know how to read chinese?

    I have a black tshirt that I bought when I was in China, with a white inscription written on the front in Chinese.

    I bought it but whever I wear it, I notice the chinese people laugh at me.  Dont know what it says, and wondering if you or somebody else could help if I attached a photo of it?

    Islame: I remember hearing a story about a woman who copied some Chinese characters from a menu because she thought they looked cool. She knitted them into a nice jumper she was making for herself, but noticed when wearing it that Chinese people gave her odd looks. So she found someone to translate them for her. Turns out her jumper proclaimed "This dish is cheap but tasty".

    No, my mum had lotsa Chinese friends when she was younger and I think she got the story from one of them. I remember her telling it to me yonks ago.

    Actually I read a similar story in the readers digest. This women goes to china, sees some beautiful Chinese writing and copies it down. After coming back home she prints it on a T-shirt and wears the T-shirt to a Chinese restaurant. The waiters give her funny looks. She finally has enough and asks one of them to translate whats written on it, and it says "Fresh milk available here."
    It is better to remain quiet and have people think that you are an idiot than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

     sure get it to me Ive been studying it for  a couple of years and if i dont the characters in question (theres about 3 thousand of the buggers for everyday speach ! ) I have a programme that lets me draw them on the screen and they tell you what they are )

    i'm not joking, the chinese who see me wearing it thought it was hilarious.  they were pointing me out to their fellow chinese friends to have a laugh at it too!

    Ive never got the chinese sense of humour, its weird

    going to take a guess that it says something like ' those who speak well , are well spoken of '  I will check with a chinese friend of mine to confirm it for you

    seen that post over the page, chinese humour is very much based on play on words , so what it actually says may not be the humourous ting about it.

    'Is this sodomy?' Tom asked, half in Ernest.

    or something more relevent ..

    'I'd love some Chinese food,' said Tom wantonly.

    or do you mean in another way? 

    Id like really like to understand why it was so funny to everybody from airport baggage control, check-in right in Guangzhou right through to the chinese chip shop down the street..

    Islame , ok my mate said it is a play on words , its literal mean is

    I you have a good Mahjong manner then you have good manners  , but the play on words makes it like


    Play well or be well played . Thats the best I can do. Im pleased becuase at least I got the sentence structure and basic meaning Smiley
