The Lib Dems support the Euro for the UK, do they? Not sure, but that would strike me as a sticking point because I always thought many, many people of the UK were against the Euro, definitely more-so than you'd notice in a lot of other European countries.

The UK is the most Eurosceptic country in the EU followed by Hungary and Latvia. Check the latest surveys.
My uncle's English wife says it's because "we still have that island mentality".

well, it is an island isnt it, that is not linked by borders and the mainland like the rest? Also UK is just as equally linked to the states, and has always been sceptical of European politics and proud of its own.

What puzzles is that the UK public doesn't value the alliance with the US as it used to. There is rising anti-Americanism here. So you'd think they would align themselves with the EU ! Right?

I dont think it ever did - its westminster that does.

I dunno, I like their current non-committal strategy.  Trying to keep their toes dipped in both sides of the Atlantic, taking advantage from both (e.g. common trade agreement) but also not taking the disadvantages (like the Euro)

The thing is, when we vote, we have no idea whether politicians will stay true to their policies or not. Even if they do stay true to their current policies, we don't know what kind of decisions they will make in future unforseeable situations, and whether they will base their decision on the good of the people or for their own selfish reasons.

So what if Lib Dems get into power and they dissappoint you in the good old-fashioned way that politicians do. I guess that would make you even angrier. Is there a point at which you will become so angry that you will stop voting and decide to do something else? Something perhaps a bit more drastic?

Their policies on immigration are the worst ones yet. I'm very tempted to vote for the Raving Monster Party. I don't give a fuck any more. They all suck.

Maybe I'll do something more drastic in the future (but I am lazy). Right now I just wanna pass uni and sort out the zillions of other problems on my mind.

You know that that's exactly what the political establishment was hoping you would say, right? Smiley And no doubt the majority of the electorate will say the same as you? I know I've got what feels like a zillion other problems on my mind too: stressing over exams, securing a roof over my head for next year, career choices.

Do you believe those zillion problems will ever go away?

The debate was a lot closer this week - but imho Clegg still came out best and frankly just looking at the three people standing in front of me - I would definitely trust him over the other two!

I'm not denying that you have a zillion problems. I'm saying, remember: the majority of people in the UK and in the world are having a hard time right now. Many people across the globe are in an unimaginably worse situation than you, so don't start thinking you have too much on your plate to make a change.

The only way to combat the complacency that is turning this country upside down is if we start being brutally honest.

People do change though.  Up until now, I've never been interested in voting, this will be the first year I ever exercise my freedom to vote, or appreciate what it took to get it.

I got to admit, I am surprised at a couple of the names of people who are opting not to vote, but things do and will change, they do for everybody.

I hope so. I'm surprised too because I've always pictured an apathetic electorate as being lazy and stupid. It's shocking to see otherwise intelligent people refusing to vote, and for no good reason either. I've voted at every available opportunity since I was eligible, and I'd like everyone to do the same. I just want people to give a shit. Inaction doesn't change things - it's actually the most effective endorsement for keeping things the way they are.
