Custom made Avatars

IsLame was asking me about how I made my dilicious avatar on another thread? Mmmmm nice to look at, especially in the mornings....

I made these images using a small APP that I got on my iphone. My idea (if possible!!!) depends on whether our forum support this or not is the following. If Os or Aziz (or one of our smart programers here) can make a small function when choosing avatar from profile and all we can do is type in our name or what ever words we want to use and we get our custom avatar. I am not sure if this is done with a flash or java or what? I am not very good with programing. BUt the app on my iphone is simple and fast.

And Islame for now, I have made two for you here if you want to use them:

LOL. I like this program. How much control do you have over the font and the placement of the writing? Or does the algorithm figure everything out by itself?

I don't know if that particular iPhone app could be used on Linux, too (that's what the server runs on.) Maybe there's a similar program, which is free and could be used here. However, I don't really have the time to write a plugin for the page where you choose your avatar.

I tried all kinds of phones... Nokia, Windows PDAs etc and although there are many terrible things with the iphone that I would like to have corrected or functions that I wish Apple adds to the iphone, for me it is the best phone ever used!

Go get one Berbs, you will love how easy to use it is!

We could just resize the ones RIBS makes and save them up as png's. Easy. No messing with software then and no performance hits.

Aziz, the APP is called "I AM AWESOME" please search if there is anything similar that runs on Linux. What you type is fitted automatically on the designated space the program provides. It is funn!

I don't think any other forum have such a feature.... so if we can do it we could be pioneering something

Meh. How much processing is this going to chew if everyone is messing around with gfx?

Better IMO to just make another avatar pack and load that (which is easy as a mod) and let people pick from those.

But then we would not have custom "Name-based" avatars, and I thought maybe it is nice to have such a luxury!

For now any one who want his name on one of the above avatars, just pm me it only takes few seconds!

That issue I am not familiar with. You guys know best. Maybe that is why they dont have it on other forums.

Apple makes very good and user-friendly products, but they are very totalitarian with respect to who can run what kind of software on their iPhone. You can't sell any of your programs in the App Store unless it's approved by Apple.

And recently they have changed the Program License Agreement for developers who want to write software for the iPhone. They specifically demand that you originally write your software in one of the 3 approved programming languages. The emphasis is on "originally" because that way they can prevent Adobe from getting a foothold in the iPhone application market. Apple doesn't allow Flash on the iPhone, and Adobe has developed a piece of software that can convert any Flash app into an app that is native to the iPhone.

Apple can basically screw anyone over with their locked platform and the users are loving it!

Apples locked platform is exactly what I hate about them. Woudn't mind having an iPod though. Has a good range of apps. Wish they would release one with a slideout qwerty keybard though. Wouldn't mind owning that once I have some money.

I wish it had been a multiple choice, I would have voted for Hi allah as well as the cappucino, but I voted for the cappucino in the end by a slight margin lol.
