I dont really understand all of it but from what I can make out the guy shouts what sounds like  'Aaaalllah '  and then the women berates him saying why is he shouting on a quite peaceful morning disturbing the peace . She then walks of and the guys mate comes round corner and he says ' what was it you said you  wanted? ' and he shouts ' OOOOLah'
which Im guessing is his choice from the barbecue.   Cheesy

According to the polls only 1.6 % of Americans are athiests. So what gives you the right to call the other 80% morons?'

Well, the women comes over and says something like.

"Are you crazy? its 7 am! Am i screaming GOD liek a madman? Besides, its not good for your voice."

    Then she walks away.

the other guy shows up and asks "What did you say?"

The guy awnsers "aaaalaaaaaahh..." wich means *turn it on* in swiss german. and adds in perfect swiss german. "Its horrible if you have to work with such idiots all day"

Lucky you. My mother tongue is Arabic, and I am happy with my English (wish it was better but I'm OK with this level). However, I would love to learn some French and German. That would be my dream come true if I did. *sigh*

Forgive for being a bit thick but how come "aaaalaaaaaahh..." can be understood to mean the same as *turn it on*? Even phonetically it doesn't make any sense as far as I can tell.

Lucky you. I wish could speak Arabic. I'd trade my Turkish for it. Would be better for debunking arguments made by Muslims. Cheesy

Oiii... thats hard to explain.  They are actually two words. ah lah. "Ah" means "an" in high german... wich is "on" in english. "lah" comes from the high german "lassen". The literal translation would be "let on" or "let it on". you could say "let on" or word for word, "on let".

In high german you could say "anlassen". In swiss german we often turn two words into one... like "allah".

The problem is, in other dialects, it would be spoken a bit different... the more you get into east switzerland it would turn into something lik "ahloh" or "alooh".

The joke works because its "züriidütsch", the dialect spoken in Zurich.
