     OP - April 12, 2010, 08:31 AM

    Burqa gets a makeover.

The burqa is the wardrobe of choice for many Muslim women. It is worn over a woman's daily clothing, usually covering her from head to toe. Today, the burqa has gone designer, popping up on fashion runways in the West, like at this show by Norwegian designers Marked Moskva in Norway earlier this month. Here, a burqa evokes traditional Norwegian dress. The designers reportedly say they are aiming their collection at Muslims and non-Muslims. (Mattis Sanblad, Scanpix/AP Photo)

The camo one would be good at a rave with some glowsticks, IMO.   grin12

BTW I have a burqa fetish, I collect the things.... don't know why.  Not like I ever wear them outside the house.  Just like to collect them.. along with sexy Star Wars action figures.   cool2

To be honest, with the exception of the top one, who looks like a surgeon with bad taste in scrubs, they all look like shopping bags with eye holes. And the polka-dotted one looks like a bag of candy.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I remain.

God Burqas are ugly no matter which way you go.  They are kind of like Moo moos , there is no way to get around the uglyness.

I did see a hijab that was the same material/pattern of the Scottish kilts. I thought it was pretty cool.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

Well the designers that make them aren't usually orthodox Muslims.  They just see a general concept and run with it.

This is actually a graduation costume. In april/may every year 18-year olds wears this (again, without the burqa part).  mysmilie_977

This is how the traditional dress is supposed to look like. There are many different patterns and colors. It depends on where in Norway you live.

The makeover cannot make it appealing. Those creations are all a hot mess!

It defeats the "spirit of the law" purpose while keeping the letter of the law. Sure she is covered up but you can see her form.  She could be wearing a long sleeve T shirt and a pair of blue jeans and the effect would be the same. But that is how it goes with swimming.  To swim comfortably swimmers need something hydrodynamic.  Same thing with athletic runners, you need to wear clothes that are aerodynamic. To comply with these things requires either a little cognitive dissonance which I think the burkini does, or segregating beaches and athletic events etc.  It just seems so wasteful and stupid for me to create such a huge economic and social barrier when it comes to various things.

Burkini, lol Islamic entrepreneurship... gotta love it. It reminds me of those annoying little teddy bears who recite Qur'an. "Yes, creating images is haraam most of the time, but look at the widdle teddy bear its soooo cute and educational mashallah!"

In my opinion burkinis are a step in the right direction, even if they look stupid.

but the moment you get in to women fashion show  means the meaning and the purpose of that verse

And say to the believing women that they cast down their looks and guard their private parts and do not display their ornaments except what appears thereof, and let them wear their head-coverings over their bosoms, and not display their ornaments except to their husbands or their fathers, or the fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or those whom their right hands possess, or the male servants not having need (of women), or the children who have not attained knowledge of what is hidden of women; and let them not strike their feet so that what they hide of their ornaments may be known; and turn to Allah all of you, O believers! so that you may be successful.
