  • Hypothetical Salary question - UK
     OP - April 14, 2010, 09:35 AM

    Hi all

Its been a long time by now, sorry for not being able to follow up with you guys

I have a question about a job offer that I'm wondering about....in my current job I get paid 12000$ per annum I did a search on the internet and found the job best matching my job to be paying £36000 - £44000 per annum

the job I currently hold have a much wider requirement and responsibility set, however I was wondering if this salary range is considered good for the second, I know its big money but how much is it after taxes and all

How do this sound for you..

The reason I'm asking is that I'm trying to finalize my relations with the land of the sand and pretty much getting your way in few months if not earlier, so I'm trying to plan to the future  Smiley

    thanks all

Income tax in the UK works like this.

For income between 0 and £6475, there is no income tax. Income between £6475 and £37400 is at a rate of 20%. Income bwtween £37400 and £150000 is at a rate of 40%. Income over £150000 is taxed at a rate of 50%.

So just say if you are earning at the top end of what you stated at £44000, you would be paying £8825 a year tax.

There is also national insurance on top of that as well which I can't work out how much you pay!

    Yeah Mixu got it right.

Here is the official website: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/it.htm
Here is the Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_tax_in_the_United_Kingdom#Personal_taxes

And here is a very handy website. It gives you the take home salary after both tax and national insurance are deducted (the only problem is it hasn't been updated since 08; however, it gives very close figures): http://thesalarycalculator.co.uk/salary.php
