This 114-page report documents the system of exploitation and abuse in which at least 50,000 boys known as talibés - the vast majority under age 12 and many as young as four - are forced to beg on Senegal's streets for long hours, seven days a week, by often brutally abusive teachers, known as marabouts. The report says that the boys often suffer extreme abuse, neglect, and exploitation by the teachers. It is based on interviews with 175 current and former talibés, as well as some 120 other people, including marabouts, families who sent their children to these schools, Islamic scholars, government officials, and humanitarian officials.

What is that has to do with Quran?? Just putting name Quranic School is very little to do with Quran. The blame to this tragic life and social Tragedy of these children should fall directly on Parents and on rulers of the country. We must realize such children are every where not just in countries with Muslims in majority..

How about just teaching the children some useful skills rather than swinging around side to side whilst chanting the Qur'an like parrot zombies in a language they don't understand.

You Got that right dear kaiwai., Not only in so-called Islamic /qurainic schools Schools, I say that should be done in that Mosques.. Close Mosques and make them Schools to teach useful skills.

Religions and religious scriptures SHOULD ONLY BE TAUGHT IN HOMES.. Nothing should be in public., the moment it becomes public drama politics and politicians ..Ummah, Mullah ..Imam.. President.. Parliament member etc...etc will come into religion to rule through it. Unfortunately another name for Islam is Political party in the name of Allah where rogue will become heads of countries..

No big surprise here, but the same thing is happening to Senegalese girls as well

Yeezevee, surely you cannot be saying that we should abandon the principles of freedom of religion and assembly?

That would be almost as bad as what they do in an Islamic state!
