  • History of the "We have renounced" image
     OP - July 27, 2010, 11:55 PM

Hi I just stumbled upon the history of the "We have renounced" image and was wondering whether you are aware of where it is coming from.

This is the version of the CEMB:

It's a copycat of the version by the German council of ex muslims:

"Wir haben abgeschworen" means "We have renounced".

But this is the original image which inspired the German  council of ex muslims:

This is the front page of a 1971 newspaper from Germany.

"Wir haben abgetrieben" means "We have aborted".

The newspaper reports 374 women going public and confessing they have had an abortion (still highly illegal back then).

As I said, I stumbled upon the story of the Stern article about abortion. I already knew that the British CEMB is a copy of the German Council of Ex-Muslims. I think it is obvious that the German council had the Stern story in mind when designing their own campaign.

What book? Are writing a book about the CEMB? Ne need to ask me, everything I mentioned is public knowledge. If you want to get more details, I propose directly contacting the German Council of Ex-Muslims and letting them tell the full story.
