before anyone says it, yes I know some people will see this as 'controversial', but hay, i'm a controversial kinda guy  Wink

On a daily basis, I get into varying debates with Muslims on a number of topics.
    (Usually the Quran,Muhammed,miracles etc etc)

Now, over the years, the end conclusion by them was usually 'well dont believe, but you will burn in hell'
(A pathetic attempt at pascals wager that still shows up even after I've refuted it earlier in the conversation)

But after 9/11, I've almost always gotten a different response, which goes a little something like this...

"ooh, well you're just like that because of what the MEDIA has said, oh yes, its the MEDIA, they have brainwashed you into thinking like that"
    etc etc.
and this seems to be the 'safety zone' where the muslim can happily shrug off every valid argument I've made and any ones I make after.

    Even when I demonstrate that:
    a) I almost never consider the Media to give the accurate story on anything
    b) Gave Islam the benefit of the doubt when I was studying.
    c) Was actually in favor of Islam in past occasions.
It makes no difference..and the muslim walks away as the 'winner' who 'exposed my brainwashing'

So heres the question....Is it possible that alot of muslims have benefitted from 9/11 (as a scapegoat) for anything Muslims do?...where any action that takes place and any debate that happens can just be ended with 'the media dun did it'?

    Yeah totaly.
I think it's human nature to hide behind scapegoats. And not everyone claiming to be a Muslim is an honest person obviously ^_^

I think its a step forward,

Any theist acknoledging how easy they think it is to be brainwashed, is probably taking their first step towards apostacy.

I would suggest asking any theist that forwards a brainwashing argument, how it is that they have gained a sufficient understanding of the brainwashing process to consider themselves qualified to diagnose the condition in others.

When I was a Muslim, I struggled to maintain the cognitive dissonance on many issues, both theological and political.  When I heard Muslims saying things like "CNN are biased and BBC are biased", but then go on to support extremely biased Muslim websites. wacko  This seemed blatantly hypocritical to me.
Also, when Muslims rant about western forces killing civilians in collateral damage, they rarely condemned Muslims for terrorism in the name of Islam.  This also seemed rather hypocritical to me when I was a Muslim. wacko

Anyway, to answer your question, I think Muslims would have blamed western media for being biased and islamophobic even if 9/11 hadn't happened.  Remember the Israel/Palestine conflict has been running for decades, and Muslims have always felt that the news is too sympathetic towards Israel.

Western media has always been blamed for being biased.  And it is, just far less than Muslim critics claim.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

islamophobic, thats another word that gives me the shits,

you could substitute most any religion instead of islam and it would still not make sense.

Islam teaches fear of hell to both its adhearants apostates and non believers, everyone is unattracted by some aspect of the techings of Islam. To be an islamophobe all one has to do is beaware of islam, its a redundant term, just another invisible line in the sand for people to fight over.

shove yer religion up yer arse,

mind you most theists heads are so big theres hardly room for a whole theisim up there aswell.

meh it is an attempt to equate Islam and homosexuality in the sense that there is no rational reason to object to homosexuality and if they do they are usually bigots, the word tries to attach the same meaning to Islam. I don't know if it was a conscious attempt to do it, but that is how it tries to play out.

Jinny you have a nice way with words,

I find it difficult to tolerate foolishness amicably,

The only thing to do with a vicious circle is break it, I have always considered that this break must be an abrupt halt.

That's what the Imam at the mosque I used to go to told me. He had me think everything I knew was a lie. It wasn't though.  finmad
