What is the best provider? what are the hottest (cheapest) plans?

I need something decently fast (up to 8 mb) but it has to have unlimited usage.

So far I've found that Sky's £12/month unlimited plan is really good. Any one has experience with Sky Broadband?

Please reply ASAP. I wanna do it tonight.

Virgin Media's fibre here.  I consistently get 48 MB/s down and 1.7 MB/s up no matter the time of day or night and no restrictions. Wouldn't go with any other for speed and reliability even though they are expensive.   Afro

With O2 here on the 8Mb plan. There's no traffic shaping and we get it fairly cheap (~£12) due to my dad having a contract on his phone with them. Nothing really outstanding, however.

With Sky, you may wish to read up on the ACS:Law controversy...
The SkyUser forum will have experiences from people who are on Sky, so it's worth checking that out. Be warned, though - I suspect it has its fair share of Sky fanboys/girls...

Check the "Bad ISPs" list on Vuze's wiki, too - it'll let you know of the ISPs that throttle BitTorrent etc.

Yeah Virgin is good. Many people recommended them for me. But I have to get a Virgin phone line as well to get the cheap plans. If I take only broadband, it's gonna cost me at least £20. I don't wanna pay that much.

Sky has a good plan for £15 a month. 20MB download speed with unlimited usage but I just checked on their website and apparently out phone number is "not compatible". Which means we can't get Sky.

I hate BT. My uncle had them for a year. Their service is shitty and the actual speed is much lower than what they advertise.

I'd been with Post Office for 2 years. Good speed but I was paying £21/month for 8MB speed which I thought was a rip-off. Now I realize it wasn't that bad and probably I shoulda stayed with them.

I'm gonna see what O2, Orange, and AOL have to offer. Gonna check their websites for the cheapest deals.

Yeah I know. Same with Orange.  Cry

Thing is we have two Orange contracts in our household. But since we got them the first month we were in the UK and we didn't have a good-enough credit at the time, we had to take them in my uncle's name and then have the money come out of our accounts. In other words we pay the bills but it's not in our names. Which really sucks.

So if we want to get a cheap deal with Orange or O2 we're gonna have to wait until our mobile phone contracts expire in a couple of months and we get new ones in our names.

This REALLY sucks. I think we're gonna have to pay £20 a month. Fuck !

Damn. Ride it out and use 56k for two months?  whistling2

For me, my worst experiences were with Tiscali and Bulldog.

We used to pay £14 a month for 256Kbps (this was many years ago) and when they were offering us a free upgrade to 1Mb, the website we had to go on wouldn't load.

We then switched to Bulldog. T'was OK at first (8Mb for ~£20) but then, during certain times of the day, sites like Rapidshare would refuse to load and my Torrents would also suffer. Hated it!
