  • A poem to cheer someone up

    I am thinking about sending this to my professor who took a sabbatical for serious neurological reasons. Should I send this to him when I send my essay for my book or would it be too weird?

    It’s been one week,

    one week since you shocked us all—

    tears flowing down, at least to me;

    the pained expression, your words fall

    as your once photographic memory fails.

    As the sun sets on you,

    hiding behind brush, what lies ahead entails,

    confused, feeling through the bog,

    your life has changed, you know—

    but you’re well aware, the fog

    that surrounds you. Look—

    the butterflies float by;

    lighting the way that despair took.

    It’s been one week,

    you are in our prayers and thoughts.

    Wishing you the guidance of the Lord;

    comfort in the theology to us you taught.

    Just remember, faith works in beautiful ways,

    some day soon, the fog will lift, sun will shine.

    Let the birds and butterflies that sway

    on the warm breezes of grace

    guide you on a speedy recovery;

    peace of mind and smile on your face.

    Is your grammar defective? Just askin'.
