What is 4Chan. I went on it and its just a load of threads of pictures, but it seems to inspire alot of loyalty and passion in its fans. I mean, is that it? Its just a message board of photos and anime and manga and stuff? What's with the subversive aura it has? I don't get it.

You don't get it because you haven't seen it yet. It's way too big and it gets purged constantly. /b/ aka random is the biggest board there and has millions of visitors every month and one can only follow the last 15 pages of threads which would be equivalent to 30 - 60 minutes. No IP's are stored, no threads get archived, there are no registration details and no user-names one could trace.
