    Good job Zaiba.   Afro

Kristianne Backker is a professional journalist and an experienced media type, so you threw yourself in at the deep end by debating her first time out.  You did well too, kept your cool and made your points clearly and articulately.

However - and don't take offense at this, because you did come across very well - but there's times when inexperience shows.  If you debated her again in a year or so you would walk all over her, but at this stage you just held your own.  For example, when she was going on about how a Jew who went to Israel shouldn't leave their religion over the abuses of the Israeli state, a more experienced debater would have taken the fight right back into her court and demanded to know why the heck not?   If Israel is behaving according to the Talmud and the Torah, and a Jew doesn't like their behaviour why on earth should they remain a Jew?

Same with a muslim who doesn't like what happens in Saudi and finds that they are acting in accordance with the Qur'an and hadith.  Then she would be in the awkward position of trying to justify Saudi laws and customs with reference to a set of texts that I doubt she really knows much about.

OMG i so wanted to say so much regarding that and yes i think my inexperience did show. I was also hesitant because of the fact that i was told to keep it casual and not take it out the roof, so i was trying to be as conservative as possible without putting myself at a disadvantage.

They put a media seasoned dawah bullshitter in the ring with someone speaking live for the first time and you did well considering that. The media almost never ask the truthful and awkward questions of converts, but you did a decent job of putting the other view, and in the future you'll do even better  Afro

Aww thank you. It wasn't so bad, i was a bit nervous in the beginning and theshow would've been a whole new story if i hadn't asked Kristianne Backer to stay on, i just felt it would be easier for me to express my thoughts if i had someone to directly say them to. If you get what i mean?

That was a great and correct decision that enhanced the impact of the show.

Aww i'm a hero yay and yes you're right.

    Beyond any doubt! clap
You are one of the very few[if any!] people to take the dawahganda bull by it's horns and that was fucking awesome!

I pretty much despise converts too, it just puts em in a much more worse off situation as they chose to go into a dangerously life controlling bigoted cult.

But yet imagine they are on their way to attain nirvana! They are exercising their rights to be insane I guess!

Bollocks!   Roll Eyes   You were far from owned, you did well, and you should definitely carry on debating.  If I thought you'd got owned and were no good at this, I wouldn't waste my time typing out a post that was intended to be constructive criticism.  I would've just ignored this thread and said nothing, quietly hoping that you had the sense not to debate in public again.

Ok, I didn't know that.  Maybe in that case you were right not to hit her with the argument I suggested, but I was just trying to give constructive advice about what to do if you're hit with a similar argument in the future.  And to reiterate - you did very well, if I thought otherwise, I wouldn't waste my time with constructive criticism.

Aww Cheetah hugs thank you! that means a lot, it really does. And lol i love debating and well although this was my first live radio show discussion it most definitely wasn't the last. In fact i've just got a couple of emails from other reporters/interviewers asking me if i could spare my time to talk to them about my experience of leaving islam.

     Yikes ohmy

I wouldn't go that route though because there is plenty of evidence that the driving ban isn't "Islamic" but more a hyper extension of the male guardian/ fear of illicit sex, but there are a multitude of "cultural practices" like prohibition of missionary ( and atheistic) proselytizing, the extreme punishments of homosexuality and deconversion, attitudes towards non Muslims, Jews, etc in which the "culture" is very well informed of the"doctrinal" issues of Islam which can't be easily weaseled out of.

Blaming your parents is hogwash as well. It doesn't matter how much Islam you would have gotten once you get that bug that things don't seem right and you start asking questions it doesn't matter how hardcore your parents were or how liberal you still would have questioned. You're parents loved you which I would think would be more important than silly doctrine issues.  I mean what the fuck she just went strait into "it must have been your parent's fault" just like any ignorant person would say of any "deviant" problem like crime or whatever.

You did great Zaiba.  You were honest.

So once again I'm left with the classic Irish man's dilemma, do I eat the potato or do I let it ferment so I can drink it later?

@7:00 Kristianne Backer says "There's no such thing as blind faith, it's all to do with reason".  Bullshit.  Tell that to orthodox Muslims.  That's what the Mu'tazilites thought and look what happened to them.  Don't get me wrong, I wish all Muslims today believed this, but that is not the case and she is speaking for tiny minority of Muslims, whilst marketing Islam (as a whole) to westerners.

@7:32: KB says "..but the difference is if you do it [i.e. charitable work] as a service to God" ...  implying that is better than doing good merely because it is a good deed, without trying to gain brownie points from the sky-daddy.  How dare she say that. finmad

@8:36: KB says "I believe all religions come from God.  All religions are valid and beautiful paths to God."
and @9:02: "it doesn't say this is the only religion that leads to God."
Again, bullshit.  (orthodox) Muslims believe all non-Muslims are going to hell.  I believe the Salafi Muslims will say this belief of hers (among many others) means she is not a Muslim.  Mujahideen should answer this point if he is still around.

@~14:30: KB talks about distinguishing between culture and religion.  She has a point in some cases but in most cases the oppression is enshrined in Qur'an and Hadith.  She should try debating these points with orthodox Muslims who are by faaaar the majority.

That really is the most bare faced lie. Its quite astonising the audacity with which she lies, and with which many prosletysers of Islam lie.

They basically take all that is good outside Islam, like 'reason', and the Hare Krishna Hippy like 'all religions are paths to the same god' theology, and claims that this is what Islam teaches. When it is the absolute opposite.

They get away with so much its unreal.
