Hi,
Well Ive been reading for awhile and thought I better introduce myself. I know this is british and Im in the states but I see there are other americans here to so I guess it ok. My parents are from palestine but I never went. We did live in Chicago (which I love) but my dad is doing some job and now we are in this stupid little town with a claim to fame being the middle of the mitten whatever that means. All I know is I dont know anyone ad I hate it here cuz theres nothing to do at all!

My parents are moderate I guess as my mom doesnt wear hijab and we eat normal meat and they dont pray all the time but they do fast but they dont let me go places with boys and get mad if I put even a little make up on tho my mom wears lipstick and eyeshadow all the time but I cant and thats not fair. I got grounded from the computer because I had plucked my eyebrows. In Chicago there was lots of arabs and I had alot of frends and I was happy and my parent were casual about things but now that I am in this stupid little town Im lonely and I hate it so much. there are no muslims here and now my parents think they have to work hard to keep me inline with islam. they are acting like hypocrites to me and I hate it.

I dont see how wearing a little make up makes me bad. I dont drink or do drugs or hook up or anything iike that but i want to have some fun while Im young and they seem intent to make sure I dont. I wish we would just go back to Chicago so they would get off my back about reading quran and stuff because they never forced me before and now they do and its just making me hate it. I thought there wasnt to be any force. im so afraid they are gonna make me wear hijab in this stupid town and everyone will hate me. I dont even know the stupid language and dont see the point in learning to read something I cant even understand and my parent say the english isnt good enough but its what I know.

I found this site by accident one day and have come in sometimes to read. I had never heard of an exmuslim forum and you guys seem to know so much and I am learning alot but cant come very much s im afraid I will get caught cuz the computer is in the livingroom. its nice to meet you and hope I will have friends here.

Dont tell me to do things that dont make friggin sense!!!

Hi and welcome. Yeah, I've lived in redneckland before when my ma got a job in the middle of nowhere, it's no fun. Just remember it's not forever either. If you're using a shared computer, please always remember to clear history after you're done here.

I feel for you with all the trouble you're having to put up with for having hypocrite parents who think they're doing their bit by making their kids more religious while being their usual self.

As the others suggested, keep your browsing history cleared to make sure you don't leave any evidence behind that would consequently lead to a lot of trouble. I hope you try to put yourself out there as much as you can, try to stick to your guns and like you said "live young", have fun, chill out, make new friends, and don't take much notice of whatever religious bullshit your parents try to feed you.

You're doing yourself a great big favor reading all the wonderful knowledgeable information that this place contains, I wish I had found it much earlier but anyhow. Hope you could keep in touch as much as you can safely, and don't be fretting too much about the new place, make the best of it.

Thanks everybody for making me feel welcome! Like I said, im arab american from chicago but living in nowheresville for awhile while my dad works on some project. Im female and about 16. I have 3 brothers, 1 older and a jerk and 2 younger. I love cats and horses and shoes.
What am I? I dunno yet. When my parents get mad they point at me and say you are muslim! You cant this and this and this but I think its time for me to decid for myself and honestly i dunno enuff to say wat I am. Thats why Im reading the stuff here. I want to here all that i can before i make any big decision.I think my parents are more cultural than religious but like to pull the religion tactic on me when it suits them and i dont like that.
Thank you for the advice about the computer and i will be careful. i know my parents would be really mad if they knew i come here but i dont think thy would hurt me like some of the stuiff i read here. why is there so many that are afraid? parent are bossy and try to run our lifes but they mean well i guess and i dont think we really are in danger. why do some think that?

And really you're lucky in your parents if all they do is nag, moan and be bossy.

My parents were brutal and used very extreme physical punishments on me and my siblings, so for me, anything is possible when I hear about other people's situations. Actually I am the opposite side of the fence from you, I am still surprised at how many people were not abused by their parents lol, i thought mostly every muslim was, since mostly everyone I knew was, the same as me.

Anyway welcome and I hope that you find the answers you need so that you can decide for yourself what you are, and who you want to be.

As Burbs said, it's good to know your parents aren't of the dangerously hurtful bunch but some of us have parents who have gone too far in deep with their asses worshipping Islam that they find physical harm, emotional and psychological abuse an appropriate approach for when their child turns out to have a brain and decides that Islam and religion in general - is not for them.
