It'll be on iPlayer if you've missed it. Also, having been to a conference on FGM a couple of weeks ago, I've decided to raise money for Equality Now to help them put a stop to it I'm running a half marathon later this year and wondered if you would appreciate it if you could help me raise £500 and/or share the fundraising page via Facebook/Twitter/your website/anywhere else please.

Lynne Featherstone can fuck right off. After all that the only thing she came out with was passing responsibility onto "the community" and reassuringly declaring that she was having a meeting about it in October.

It was a 40 minute feature in the end, good that the issue got this airtime. Got to admire the bravery and efforts of those girls on the panel. Interesting to hear about the French and Dutch approaches, but I didn't get what the idea is with those travel leaflets. Are they handed to parents at the airport as last-ditch persuasion? Didn't sound like the government had put much resources into addressing FGM.

Someone mentioned the reluctance of girls to testify against their parents, but the medical evidence will speak for itself. The bigger problem would be girls not reporting it in the first place I imagine.

EDIT: The Dutch leaflets are given to anti-FGM parents when they visit their country of origin to help them resist presure from family over there who often pressure them into having their daughters cut.

Is there some similarity with the difficulty of securing convictions for forced marriage, in which victims are genuinely reluctant to have their parents whom they still love, become criminals and go to prison. Hence tricky to achieve convictions? Just wondering.
