  • Change in Islam
     OP - July 18, 2014, 09:33 PM

There are two groups, amongst many, in Christianity people may not be that aware of.

Calvinists believe in predetermination and related matters.  A classic example Is Jonathan Edwards Sinners in the hands.

Another group are arminians, who believe in free will and tend to be pentecostal. Calvinists used to think pentecostals would burn in hell and are traditional on matters like women preaching - pentecostals in contrast love the verse in Christ there are no....men women etc.

I have recently found that there are Calvinist pentecostals, but they still believe in the subordination of women.

Two groups who really believed the other were hell bound have thus shared things!

Do similar things happen in Islam?  Is there actually a steady continual change of beliefs over time?

I think the technical term is syncretism.

When you are a Bear of Very Little Brain, and you Think of Things, you find sometimes that a Thing which seemed very Thingish inside you is quite different when it gets out into the open and has other people looking at it.
