  • Some things I hate about Ramadan
     OP - July 07, 2014, 10:38 PM

A few things I dislike most about this most holey of months:

    1. No drinking during the day - not really a problem if you do your pub-crawling at night, a lot more problematic if you prefer water/juice/milk/coffee during the day

    2. No eating during the day - what, no bacon!?

    3. No sex during the day - not really a problem if your time in the sack happens after the sun goes down, otherwise very problematic

    4. Not enough sleep - because I'm trying so hard to catch up on #1-3 at night

    5. Weight gain - fasting yet gaining weight because eating sweet snacks and hunks of meat throughout the night isn't helpful

    6. Fasting breath - during any other month your Muslim mates would hand you a mint, during Ramadan they're the ones hungering for a mint

    7. Reminds me why I shouldn't have skipped Quranic studies class and hung around KFC with my mates during my teenage years - because it's embarassing to not have a clue why people are acting so holy (and expecting me to act so holy) in this holiest of months

    8. Only lasts for a month - should run through every weekday so we all can have a convenient excuse for being unproductive, glassy-eyed, foul-breathed zombies at work and go home early

A little bit of humour to get us through this most irritating of months Smiley

Seriously, I wonder why no one in the mainstream media has spoken out against the negative effects of Islamic fasting. Dehydration, low blood sugar, headaches and inability to concentrate are annoying in the office, potentially life-threatening when you're driving or operating heavy machinery. Islamic fasting has no health value at all but no one dares to say that out loud in fear of upsetting the Muslim lobby.

    i hate fucking taraweh.

Taraweeh is the worst. I skived last year with my friends, but this year the mosque is much more empty and my father and uncle are like The Exorcist girl after every two rakaats doing a full head rotation so there's no way out this year.

Should have stayed in. Read a book instead.

Do you mean that last year there were more people at the mosque? Mosque going is declining?

Oh well my mosque has two buildings you see, and on the other side there's a seperate Taraweeh for folks with early starts in the morning. This taraweeh lasts only twenty minutes, only small suras are read, so everyone is pretty much in there.

Should have stayed in. Read a book instead.

The hyper-religiosity and the constant nagging to do the rituals. Thankfully, I've found out how to get them off my  back  bunny

"Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.
Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent.
Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?
Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God." - Epicurus

My mum plays these long duas at iftaar times that are so full of nonsense and I feel violated listening to them

Those are the worst, I always just dig in long before the dua is finished.

My mum does the same thing it's annoying, though not so much lately.

Sorry but that's hilarious, "violated" Grin

I am truly sorry for you guys, hopefully some of you won't be needing to do this Ramadan shit next year.

On a side note, lately I've become extremely disdainful towards everyone and everything remotely connected to Islam.. due to various circumstances... and what I hate about Ramadan this year, even though thankfully I'm minimally exposed to it, is when Muslims read their Quran everywhere and anytime. I shrug in disgust everytime I see it, because I really hate that fucking book.

The best one is when the congregation is halfheartedly repeating "ameen" after the imaam, not paying much attention to what he's saying, but when he comes to "allahumma ansur-il mujahedeena fee kulli makaan"  you think the roof of the masjid will lift from all the ameeeen thumma ameeeeen... You're not the only one. I'm sure as more people open up to the idea of being "religionless" it will become normal to not fast.

The Muslim students always ask 'sir are you fasting' and I look them straight in the face and say 'No' and when they ask why I tell them 'I just don't think I have to starve myself just to appreciate how it is to feel hungry.' They look at me and smile, probably wishing they could say the same thing to their parents.

I bet majority of ppl dont fast & have the same views as us but have to lie to keep up appearances in front of family. Sad fact but true. They all talk of the 'special connection with allah' and 'feeling of elation' when fasting. Lol. Well i never felt anything but anger n hunger...

I was going to say "what is there NOT to hate about Ramadan?" and then I remembered that I get off work two hours earlier than usual, so there's that.

I usually don't like ramadhan because of how grumpy everyone gets. My mum doesn't mind if I don't fast (I've kept none so far) but there's the need to pray which I'm not a fan of. Thankfully it's not like last year where my mother would join me in all 5 prayers so I would HAVE to join in. This year I've """read"" one prayer and no one bothered to check.
Also, not fasting means there aren't frequent meals being cooked so I have to separately live off toast and when everyone opens their fast, OUNCES OF FRIED OILY FOOD FOR EVERYONE!!!

And nothing beats the pretentious youngsters who feel the need to preach their religion this month, only to then forget about it the month after.
