    Heard a cd today of someone who I thought was doing an Islamic version of plainsong, but it was someone reciting the koran and as far as I was concerned singing it.

    First, is this singing?

    And why did Islam never expand this into multiple voices and add instruments, ending for example with the Halleuijah Chorus?

    (Beware, not sure if following singing of koran may be triggering.)

    Interesting factoid!  Messiah isn't really religious music - it is praising the then king!
