    Born in (middle) Florida and living in (Northern) Virginia (=DC). Here in NOVA it's pretty liberal but down where I was from black kids got called "nigger" on a depressingly frequent basis and Confederate Flags were all the rage (apparently the South is going to rise again, not sure if you've heard.....).

    Oh, no, I'm aware of that, I meant the first part of your post. You made it sound we are pretty quick to form lynching mobs. We'll be total assholes any day of the week, but luckily I think the actual violence is not that easy to inspire except in the few most mentally unstable.

    I think if a gang of people perceived to be Muslims were gang raping thousands of white girls in a middling town in the South you would see blood on the streets.

    Edit: Although the police here, especially in a Republican area, would never let it get that far. No cop in the US is afraid of being accused of racism lol.

    Yeah, I just don't see the violent mob happening. And not for lack of hatred and crazies, I've had my close encounters with the nastier parts of the country and am indeed a product of the good ol' American south. But yes, in large part because the police would be shutting that down rather quickly, I don't think violent lynching mobs are common here, and I don't think that the streets would be running with blood if this happened in America.

    I guess I never really imagined lynch mobs, what I meant was the police would rather brutally shut that down and there would probably be a rash of lone-wolf style attacks, as we saw with that Nazi idiot who shot up the Sikh gurdwara probably thinking it was a mosque.

    Yeah, we might have a spike in isolated attacks. Like I said, a few from the least mentally stable, as per usual. I don't know that that will be so dissimilar from the UK, though?

    Eh, either way, I hope you're wrong for this one. I only very recently got the husband to stop being paranoid about coming to Kentucky with me. Grin

    A lot of the examples that I can recall offhand with anti-Muslim violence here hasn't been with firearms, anyway, although that is a real concern of ours in this situation and beyond it.

    I don't think that we necessarily have more violent people here who would make that concentrated effort, but yes, some unbalanced people, and yes, one unbalanced person can be a lot more devastating if they have a gun, of course. So barring that a guy with an arsenal goes on a rampage, if I were a betting man, I'd say our reaction wouldn't be worlds away from the one in the UK. Who knows, though.

    Hopefully we'll never know, but in any case I could not imagine this sexual grooming thing happening in the US on this scale  for a number of reasons.

    There certainly is a ton of child sex trafficking in the US, but it tends to be done by large crime syndicates, large in scoepe, not local gangs. To quote the article:

    "The largest number of children -- 12 -- were recovered in San Francisco during the weekend sweep. The most alleged pimps --18 -- were arrested in Detroit."

     Also a lot of the slaves are themselves are illegal immigrants from outside the US brought in for sex trafficking, that's why the VAWA includes a provision to grant the victims of international sex trafficking immediate visas.
