  • Unisex public washrooms. Good or bad?

The trend is putting in unisex washrooms.  I was visiting at a university and the washroom was unisex.  The toilet stalls had walls from ceiling to floor.  The sink area was open to all.    The biggest complaint from men using them was that women left their used menstrual products around.

I have never seen female stuff lying around in women's washrooms I've been in.

That said, I have no objection in principle to unisex washrooms.

Probably the bloody stuff are in the trash can, left open and such... it's disgusting...

Maybe just a fair warning on bathroom stalls to leave the bathroom as clean as when you come in... wipe off any pee, poo, or blood...

Some left-wing high schools (grades 7-12) in Sydney, like Newtown High, have unisex bathrooms. The parents and teachers wanted it. It's in a suburb with high numbers of gay and transgender people.

I noticed there were no sani cans in the stalls.  So the women might feel weird about taking their bloody stuff and tampon applications and walking out into the gender common sink area to put those items in the trash.

Is there any reason why most traditional type washrooms have only partition styke walls around the toilets where there is space two feet from the floor and above the head to the ceiling?

I also wonder it having unisex washrooms reduces the overal number of toilets or people who can be "served".  Building one big unisex washroommight not work either.   Especially when this place needs to be closed for cleaning.  Usually there are two cleaners employed, one for each gender.  So now the excuse will be to cut employers and just dirtier washrooms.

I think there also have to be some washrooms that have an enclosed sink area along with the toilet.  Some people have to use the sink in a gender isolated way.

Bee,  email that uni's admin about the bins.   Poor design is to blame.
