     OP - November 23, 2019, 10:14 PM

    here we go again.

    Quote from:
A demonstration organised by Stop Islamization of Norway (SIAN) in the city of Kristiansand turned violent after the group’s leader, Lars Thorsen set fire to a copy of the Quran despite a police order banning the action.

turkey also pitched their claim as the defender of the faithful.

    Quote from:
In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said: "We strongly condemn the disrespect for our holy book, the Holy Quran, in a demonstration organized by an anti-Islamic organization on 16 November 2019 in Kristiansand, Norway."

...The ministry underlined that racist and extreme right rhetoric and social media messages by certain politicians were inciting these trends against Islam.

"These attacks are not only aimed at Muslims, but also pose a threat to all humanity," the ministry stressed.

The twitter atheist/secularist says that book burning is a protected right.

I think he's confusing free speech with something else.

Yes, I’m sure he’s well-meaning and has given a lot of support to ex-Muslims, but I think he’s getting carried away with liberal values here. Maybe he should give some thought to the context. If an ex-Muslim wants to burn a Quran then I might think it’s a bad idea but I’d accept their right to do it. In the protests in Iran last week a couple of seminaries were burnt and there were pictures put online of burnt Qurans. And fair enough really, whether or not it was good tactics from the rioters. It shouldn’t be too complicated to see a white nationalist burning a Quran as a provocation as a different situation.

This happened in my home town. I was almost there and knew what could happen. I have talked to one of those guys several times. The persons that did this are members of SIAN, a group working against "Islamization" of Norway. They are not Nazis. In the statues of this organization, it says that Nazies and racists cannot be a member, and that they are against violence.

I just know of the old guy. He was once a leader of the freethinkers, the humanist movement, but had to quit. I think that his view is that Islam is dangerous for our society. He made a trap, and some of the Muslims clearly fell into that trap and became violent.
It is a lot of discussions here about this at the moment and a minister and head of the police had to explain their views on TV today. SIAN has a minimal support and the Muslims are viewed as the victims.

    Quote from:
He recently received a 30 day suspended jail sentence and a fine for distributing pamphlets in Oslo that accused Muslims of being “notorious sexual predators” who “rape in epidemic proportions.”

Yeez, I don't know exactly what you mean, but I know the one in the middle the best; Shabana Rehman is a former comedian, known for lifting Mullah Krekar. She is now the leader of a group called Born Free, working to stop and prevent social control and honor cultures.

Thanks for your response, Yeez. I saw it just now. I didn't know that you have written so many post about her and that your places of birth were so close. She is really well known here in Norway and has done a fabulous job in breaking down walls between ethnic Norwegians and the "newcomers" from Pakistan.
