There is a thread at ummah with the title :

If you were to give a gun and a helmet and said FIGHT...Would You?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and here are some of the replies made by a muslimah with the nick Ruhi Islam :

    Quote
    YES I WOULD!!!

I am a sister but I would, I have more courage and passion than most (non-Muslim-because my muslim brothers are courages) MEN! Yes I do, not only would I go and fight, but I would also raise the flag of Islam, I would cut my hair and use it as a whip, I would grow and sharpen my nails and use them as claws...

How I wish I was at the time of the prophet asw so i could fight, walahi I would have killed so many of the oppressors, just give me the opportunity now and see what I will do, i will turn the world upside down...where are our leaders to dictate us? Ya hasratana, Only if I was a boy, only if I was a man.

    Quote
And family, friends, possessions...forget them all, walahi I would sacrifice all of them for Islam, all of them in addition to myself.

    Quote
NO JOKES, I crave for such an opportunity, IF, after disguising myself as a man and arguing for hours I was still not permitted, then I would be a shooting star attending every single injured, supplying them with water and medication and cooking them food...I have fire inside of me because I know I am on the right.

but here is the hitch :

    Quote
How many times did a small believing army overcome a large disbeleiving army? Seriously, I want to help miliatarily, I want to be on the ground, when I see the news, I just wish I was there so I could help. If I was a man, I would have bought a plane ticket and filled a 20kg bag with supplies and left for Palistine TODAY! But Im sister, I can't travel without a mahram.
Allah sw knows his mountains and He thus sends snow accordingly.

    (Bolded by me)

There she is spoiling to join the fight against oppression but alas she cannot travel without a mahram. Islam is so unfair to women.

I'm always amazed at the willingness of certain Muslim youth to go to Palestine and fight. I once knew a Bangladeshi medical student who wanted to go to Palestine to treat the injured. That's noble no doubt, but why Palestine and not his native Bangladesh? Why not even Kashmir which is closer to home. Of course one doesn't ask such questions. Allah (SWT) knows best  yes

Yes, but did you not find her reason for not going funny ? I must admit, that I laughed out loud when I read it. All that bravado and then to be held back by the fact, that she is not allowed to travel without a mahram.

She's fooling herself. If she really wanted to she would go and do something stupid, woman or not. She's secretly thinking - thank god I need a mahram!

I wonder how many of those people have been personally involved in violence or war.

Most people exposed to such things really don't want to repeat it.

I say let's take them to a morgue, and expose them to the reality, the smells, the fluids, the missing and damage body parts. Let them help with an autopsy or three.

Then ask if they still want to get so involved in doing that to others.

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I remain.

Reminds me of Berber, a member at FFI, who wished something similar, but alas he has a bad knee ...  Cheesy Cheesy

I was not blessed with the ability to have blind faith. I cant beleive something just because someone says its true.

    What a moron.

I've spoken to people who are/were soldiers and fought in actual wars. You know what they say? That war is hell. Anyone who actually desires war, who yearns to be in the midst of all that killing and bloodshed, must be psychotic. More likely this gal has been fed on stories and doesn't understand what it really means on a human level.

It reminds me of The Red Badge of Courage, a book about the civil war in America. The main character has been reading all these stories that glorify war and so he can't wait to get out on the battlefield. Once he gets there he sees how devastating war is and is traumatized.

I think the best fighters are probably those who hate it and do it anyway.

(Of course I've never been to war so what do I know?)

this is the exact opposite effect to what true spirituality, true religion should have... giving one peace of soul and mind, bringing one closer to God - not turning one into a bloodthirsty wannabe fighter... Scary!  Huh?

Agreed, much like the best leaders are those who do not long for power.

Cheesy I like the lack of logic there. It makes the point rather well.

Funny how these things can often go over people's heads. I used to say "picnic short of a picnic" which i was really proud of  dance but some people just didn't get it. Besides it got old v quick  Cry

I have become a big fan of compulsory service in the last few years. Let every person work in an emergency room and morgue. Or do military service for two years, before allowing them to take part in voting for local or national leaders.

Perhaps if more people experienced the hard, cold, reality of violence, and the deaths or injuries caused by it, there wouldn't be so many arm-chair warriors. Who love to spin fanciful stories of how they would destroy their enemies all by themselves. Or couch potato generals, who swear up and down that their violent ideas will solve all the problems in the world.

Not a bad idea. You could add making them convey news of the death of loved ones to relatives of the victims. That should get the fuckers thinking if they have any humanity.
