  • Miracles (& Homosexual acts?) Attributed to Prophet Muhammad
     OP - April 05, 2009, 01:05 PM

Actually, this is a rather long subject, so I made two posts on it.
This first post deals with the less interesting phenomenon of Mo's alleged miracles, while the second post deals with the more interesting issue of certain acts between Mo & his followers which seem suspiciously like homosexuality001_tongue

Muhammad had once claimed that his miracle was the Quran, however a few miracles are also attributed to him in various hadiths.

I'll enumerate a few of them: I also have a few questions reagrding the miracles & answers would be helpful.

Splitting of the moon: A miracle of Allah's Messenger was the splitting of the moon. Narrated Anas (radiyallahu anhu) that the Makkans requested Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon. [Saheeh al-Bukharee vol: 4, no: 831]

Was this before the Hijrah? And what did the Meccans think of this miracle questions2

The Flowing of water from amongst the fingers of Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam). Narrated Jabir Ibn Abdullah (radiyallahu anhu): I was with the Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) and the time for the Asr prayer became due. We had no water with us except a little which was put in a vessel and was brought to the Prophet (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam). He put his hand into it and spread out his fingers and then said: Come along! Hurry up! All those who want to perform ablution. The blessing is from Allah. I saw the water gushing out from his fingers. So the people performed the ablution and drank, and I tried to drink more of that water (beyond my thirst and capacity), for I knew it was blessing. The sub-narrator said: I asked Jabir: How many persons were you then? He replied: We were one thousand four hundred men. [Saheeh al-Bukharee vol: 7, no: 543 and Saheeh al-Muslim vol: 4, no: 779]

Hmm, this seems inspired from the Jesus turning water into wine incident.  :d'oh:

Speaking of the wolf: Abi Saeed al-Khudri (radiyallahu anhu) narrated that while a shepherd was amongst his sheep suddenly a wolf attacked a sheep and took it away. The shepherd chased the wolf and took back his sheep. The wolf sat on its tail and addressed the shepherd saying: Be afraid of Allah. You have taken the provision from me which Allah gave me. The shepherd said:What an amazing thing! A wolf sitting on its tail and speaks to me in the language of human beings. The wolf said: Shall I tell you something more amazing than this? There is Muhammad (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) in Yathrib (Madinah) informing the people about the news of the past.? Then the shepherd proceeded (towards al-Madinah) driving his sheep till he entered al-Madinah, cornered his sheep to one side and came to Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) and informed the whole story. Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) ordered for the proclamation of a congregational prayer, then he
came out and asked the shepherd to inform the people (about his story) and he informed them. Then Allah?s Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) said: ?He (the shepherd) has spoken the truth. By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, the Day of Resurrection will not be established until the beasts of prey speak to the human beings, and the stick lash and the shoe-laces of a person speak to him and his thigh informs him about the family as to what happened to them after him.? [Musnad Ahmad vol: 3, page: 83. Musnad Abi Saeed al-Khudr]

Prophet's meal & stone used to glorify him:The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) was granted many other miracles. The Prophet's meal used to glorify him [Saheeh al-Bukharee vol: 4, no: 779], and the stones used to greet him, when he passed though the lanes of Makkah.

Finally perhaps the most significant miracle: The Night Journey:
Before the Journey: Angel Jibreel (alaihis-salaam) opened the Prophet's (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) breast, extracted his heart and washed it with the water of Zam-Zam. Narrated Anas bin Malik (radiyallahu anhu): The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) said:The night, Allah's Messenger (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) was taken for a journey from the sacred mosque (of Mecca) Al-Ka'ba. Three persons came to him (in a dream) while he was sleeping in the Sacred Mosque before the Divine Inspiration was revealed to him. One of them said: Which of them is he? The middle (second) Angel said: ?He is the best of them.? The last (third) angle said: Take the best of them. Only this happened on that night. The Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) did not see them till they came on another night, i.e. after the Divine Inspiration was revealed to him (Fateh al-Baree p: 258, Vol. 17), and he saw them, his eyes were asleep but his heart was not and so is the case with
(all) the Prophets (alaihis-salaam); their eyes sleep while their hearts are awake. Therefore, those angels did not talk to him until they carried him and placed him beside the well of Zam-Zam. From among them, Jibreel (alaihis-salaam) took charge of him. He cut open (the part of his body) between his throat and the middle of his chest (heart), took all the material out of his chest and abdomen and then washed it with the water of Zam-Zam with his own hands till he cleansed the inside of his body, and then a gold tray containing a gold bowl full of belief and wisdom was brought. Jibreel (alaihis-salaam) then stuffed his chest and throat, blood vessels with it and then closed it (the chest).[Saheeh al-Bukharee v: 9, no: 608, v: 1, no: 345, v: 5, no: 227]
Israa means the Prophet?s (sallallahu alaihe wa-sallam) journey in body and soul from al-Kaaba in Makkah to the Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem by an amazing beast called al-Buraq and his return back to Makkah.

How well accepted are these miracles of Muhammad?

This site gives a longer list of the miracles of the Prophet Muhammad:

With this link is another link to another site which describes the benefits of the sweat, clothes & even hair, nails, saliva & ablution water etc of the Prophet: Actually, some posters here were unaware of the color consciousness of Arabs, & think that Muhammad is always a simple mortal in Islam. Well, we can see how everything connected to him, from saliva to shirt is considered blessed.

What is interesting is these details:  Phwoar Phwoar Phwoar
    1.   Narrated Usayd ibn Hudayr: AbdurRahman ibn Abu Layla, quoting Usayd ibn Hudayr, a man of the Ansar, said that while he was given to jesting and was talking to the people and making them laugh, the Prophet poked him under the ribs with a stick. He said: Let me take retaliation. He said: Take retaliation. He said: You are wearing a shirt but I am not. The Prophet then raised his shirt and the man embraced him and began to KISS HIS SIDE. Then he said: This is what I wanted, Apostle of Allah! (Abu Dawud, Book 41, Number 5205.)

Ibn `Abd al-Barr relates, in his Isti`ab fi Ma`rifat al-as-hab (p. 673), that the Prophet, after forbidding two or three times the use of khaluq (a kind of perfume mixed with saffron), and finding that Sawad ibn `Amr al-Qari al-Ansari was wearing it, nudged him in the mid-section with a palm-tree stalk (jarida) and scratched him. The latter asked for reparation; when the Prophet bared his own belly to him, he jumped and kissed the Prophet's belly.

Ibn Ishaq's version in the Sira mentions that Sawad was standing in the ranks of the Companions of Badr at the time of this incident. The Prophet was arranging the ranks with his switch (miqra`a) and he nudged Sawad's belly with it, scratching him inadvertently, with the words: "Align yourself with the others." Sawad said: "Ya Rasulallah, you hurt me, so give me reparation." The Prophet handed him the switch and said: "Take reparation." Sawad approached him and kissed his belly. The Prophet said: "What made you do that, O Sawad?" He replied, "Y Rasulallah, the time has come for what you see, and I loved that my last action in this dunya be to touch you."

Narrated Buhaysah al-Fazariyyah: My father sought permission from the Prophet. Then he came near him, lifted his shirt, and began to kiss him and embrace him out of love for him... (Abu Dawud, Book 9, Number 1665.)

Ummm, was this how Meccan men expressed brotherly love?  Huh?

So what do you folks think about the kisses Mo received in his stomach, sides after lifting his shirt?

Isn't this male bonding gone too far? It definitely seems like homosexuality to me.

Wonder why Muslims, even in tolerant places like Senegal, are so homophobic?  Thinking hard would narrating these hadiths to Muslims reduce their homophobia?

I dont think Mo was a hoMo. There is nothing homosexual about kissing unless you derive sexual satisfaction from it.  It was probably culturally acceptable at the time, and did not have a sexual connotation associated with it.

With modern day media, everyone is aware of homosexuality and are quick to point fingers at our softer side or anything remotely effeminate.  I remember the flack a friend of mine got at work when he changed from wearing his everyday blue shirt to a pink shirt with his suit

Have you seen the picture that is "evidence" that the moon was split in two?! It is so silly! Why do Muslims believe anything?!

Yep you're probably right-today we're quick to call anything reeking of feminine behaviour as "homo" -there can well be cultural norms which seem weird to us.

I'm still finding the practice of one man lifting his shirt & receiving kisses on his belly & sides from other men a bit strange-but well, it probably was acceptable behaviour!  Wink
