  • Books for self learning maths, physics, chemistry?
     OP - January 24, 2010, 02:16 PM

So I'm getting ready to start studying for year 11 & 12.  I'm going to home-school myself, which basically means I'll study at home, may be get a tutor to visit me, and then turn up at the exams.

However the problem is that the textbooks are really boring.. and very hard to understand. I'd really have to force myself to read them.

I think I can score really well if I can get my hands on some books which are fun to read, and easy to understand. I already love to read and I'm into the science subjects, its just the textbooks I have a problem reading.

Does anyone have any recommendations for any books which can basically be used to self-learn high school level maths, physics, and chemistry? I could order the books through amazon.com or any other internet website and have them shipped to me.

    Any recommendations?

This one is brilliant, it is written for self-help, and it starts brushing up from the basics, and more importantly is written in an engaging style. Though I am not sure if its level is what you are looking for, I dunno how years 11 and 12 compare with AS/A2-Level.

    Check this too

Reviews seem quite positive, but I don't have it myself.

As for Physics and Chemistry check these out

I have the Physics one, and can tell you it's quite good for self learning. I am not sure how advanced is your curriculum, but you might need another book to supplement it (Maybe the text book you are supposed to get) as it doesn't go very deep.
I don't have the Chemistry one, but considering they are from the same series I suppose it should be as good.

Which country? Also careful when you home-school, you miss the chance to meet up with all those wonderful wankers in class which might rob you of a chance to develop much required social skills, because, I assure you, the wankers will not go away or stop being wankers once you finish school and goto work, and you will still need to deal with them.
