  • Do Sunni Muslims consider Saddam a martyr?
     OP - August 02, 2011, 07:03 AM

    Hi,

Sunni Muslims I've spoken to seem oblivious to the atrocities Saddam Hussein committed and even consider him a martyr.  finmad

Can any Ex-Sunni Muslims comment on whether this is true for Sunnis in general? (or at least in their families)

I have heard Sunni people around me say that, but I don't know about Sunnis in general.

however the Sunni side of my family does not think that, and I notice that people who do think it are usually the ones who hate Shias, and believe that Saddam did humanity a favor by attacking Shias.

I've never heard anyone say that, ever, and all my non-apostate family are Sunni Muslims. O.o

I wonder if Saddam was a Muslim at all... always thought he was a secular Christian.

Saddam hated Shias, he's known to be Sunni (@ least that what he showed, he might have been nominal or so deep in his heart),

and yes, a good number of Sunnis do believe he was a hero etc.

That might be certain Sunni muslims POV but I wouldn't say all sunni's consider Saddam Hussain a martyr. I come from a sunni family and my family always considered mass murderers as mass murderers. Although if there has ever been a concern with their views I think it would be of their intolerance of other cultures and religions.
