SPANISH police have arrested nine men suspected of seeking to have a woman killed after they accused her of adultery, claiming they were following Islamic law, authorities said.

The men were arrested on November 14 and seven have been held in jail, a police spokesman said.

According to police, the woman had been taken in March and held in an isolated house in Valls in northeastern Catalonia.

Authorities say the men set up a court there to judge her for adultery.

"These men had formed a kind of court to apply (Islamic) sharia law,'' the spokesman said, adding the woman told authorities she was tried and sentenced to death.

She was later able to escape and report what happened to police.

There is no reason to suspect they are fresh off the boat. The guys that did 7/7 were Second Gen. There is no reason to suspect they are uneducated either.

It's interesting, is it not, that the popular belief about terrorism and extremism is that it is the province of the uneducated and the poor, and let the leading lights of the jihadi movement are mainly from well to do or middle class families and have education? I remember once reading a story about pro-Taliban style protesting in Pakistan (the author and some others were observing this) and the American was saying "This is the poor, these are uneducated people who don't know any better about what Islam teaches," and a poor Pakistani who was working in the shop they're standing around pontificating in front of heard this and shot back, "Who can afford to take a day from work and shout in the streets better than the middle and upper classes? We certainly can't."

So the intelligent people are doing all the crazy shit. Let me ask you. Can one judge an ideology based on its followers? If these are sane, able-bodied, intelligent people. If the fundamentalists are following the fundaments; underlying theoretical basis or principle of an ideology, can this ideology, system of belief be judged simply based on their actions?

The worst part of my post is that its only a person with an objective view that will think of these questions as rhetorical. Everybody else will try to answer them; and fail, epically.

Just read a bit more about this today. Their Lawyer is saying that it was just an excercise in fantasy and anyway its not true becuase the woman has contradicted her self in one point in her declaration ( probably said it was 6.15 it happend and it transpires that it was 6.17.)

According to the polls only 1.6 % of Americans are athiests. So what gives you the right to call the other 80% morons?'

an update on this. Just watched a news report ( from Spain ) A camera crew had gone down to the place it is said to have taken place. One witness says the woman came running towards him screaming for help , that she was trembling with fear saying they were going to kill her.
Whatever happened it is now clear they had taken her to a farmhouse without her consent. It is in the farmhouse the 'Court' was said to have been set up.
The video then cuts to interviews of local morrocans saying it never happened someone is making it up. 'how do you know this?' asks the interviewer. The answer , I shit you not ; becuase muslims would not arrange a sharia law court
Im sure he meant to add 'in this country' but it made me laugh when I heard it.

From what I can gather one of the 9 has been released and is saying that he is being framed by people who want to see him in trouble. He didnt comment on the innocence or otherwise of the rest of the detainees though
