Islamification, Islamization, Islamified...

I noticed in the past that some people on this forum object to these words. I don't understand why, so I've decided to create a thread to discuss.

What do these words mean in your view? What does it mean when a society becomes "Islamized"? Isn't it evident what it means? Can we cite any examples of countries which have become more Islamized, or less Islamized?

I dont have a problem with these words, and Ive used them myself. THe only time I can think when someone has had an objection to them is when it was referring to the context - EDL might have used these word just because they saw a mosque being built in their city..

Some people say that merely mentioning these words amounts to "scaremongering".

Some people choose to use other words like "radicalisation" instead. They think it's better to say that countries like Pakistan are being "radicalised" instead of "Islamized".

Its a tricky word. I don't use it much myself because it can be problematic. At one benign level it might just be suggestive of how a place becomes shaded with the culture or manifestations of Islam. So in the last 50 years, Britain has been 'Islamized' in the same way that it has been 'Hindu-ized', 'Afro-Carribean-ized', 'Chinese-ized', 'Sikh-ized', 'African-ized' and so on. But I think one reason why it is a tricky word is that it is unstable in meaning - it means different things to different people, and has different resonances for different people.

Some people think it means a process of intensification of religiosity amongst Muslims themselves, and of wider society becoming influenced by that religiosity too.

I'll be interested to read what others think on this thread.

Surely the equivelant of 'Hindu-ized', 'Afro-Carribean-ized', 'Chinese-ized', 'Sikh-ized', and 'African-ized' would be... Muslim-ized? Not Islamized.

There's a slight distinction to be made there.

The number of Muslims within a society doesn't necessarily reflect the level of Islamization (although it is a very big factor of course).

There are countries which have greater number of Muslims but less Islamization.

For example, Turkey is 98% Muslim but it is less Islamized than countries like Nigeria which is 50% Muslim or Malaysia which is 60% Muslim.

Yes, you might be right. But as I said, that is a benign interpretation of what it means.

If it refers to intensity of Islamic religiosity I would say that some towns and parts of cities in Britain are heavily Islamized.

greetings dear Shahid Raza., I am sorry to say that I too object those words.

They sound HORRIBLE ., sounds like mummyfication, mummyization, mummyfied... as if once a person becomes Muslim there is nothing for him/her and to the generations down the road except Arabian Islam...

I disagree with you, man can choose what he wants for himself, no one have any rights to stop it(Except God and will answer alone to God for the choice he made), but unfortunately if he is in a country where religion is mixed with politics and extremism, then it could be an issue.

You do you have point there dear xtr00., you are indeed right., what a man/woman chooses is it is up to them and their creator/Originator/Provider/Reliever/retainer .... whatever., But I was not talking about Allah/God and its relation with man/woman dear xtr00. It was just a comment about Islamified, Islamization, Islamification,, and how such blind/unquestionable belief leads people to mummification and stagnation of brains..
