  • Whence Cometh Evil?

He has been making stupid videos recently, but this one is good.  Afro

"In every time and culture there are pressures to conform to the prevailing prejudices. But there are also, in every place and epoch, those who value the truth; who record the evidence faithfully. Future generations are in their debt." -Carl Sagan

Ah yes. I completey lost my interest on his rants about McDonalds and other things.
Good to see him talking about things of interest!

Epicurus was the shiznit, by the way!

Bukhari 62:142 - Narrated Anas bin Malik:
The Prophet used to pass by (have sexual relation with) all his wives in one night, and at that time he had nine wives.

Yes, he is hit and miss but states things nicely sometimes. (I still love his Humanity analogy as "God's battered wife.")

This from the vid was well put:

"If life is a test, then the way you pass this test is absurd. You pass the test of life when you put all reason and logic aside and accept <insert religion>. The only character trait exemplified by giving up reason in favour of a 2000 (or 1400) year-old book of desert tribal myths is willful ignorance. What sort of a God would reward that?

How much I love Epicurus's philosophy and think he was an awesome genius, I have to disagree with him here.

    Why call him God?
Well who gave Epicurus, Greeks, Jews, Christians and Muslims a copyright on the term god? I know the malaysian muslims also think they have a copyright on it, and so do christians I talk to, but none you all do. Actually, the norse gods for example, aren't just not omnipotent, they're also not immortal.

But the arguement certainly debunks Islam, christianity and most forms of Judaism.

It is not the way you live your life that is important, it is how well you enjoy it that matters.

I think Epicurus' argument is that even if some form of existence higher than humans actually exists, but they are not willing and not even able to help humans against evil, then they certainly aren't worthy of worship.

I'd agree with that to a point. As what if they aren't willing because they have too little time to spare?  Wink

Though yeah I agree, not just to a point. As if you are going to worship anything, it best be good and do alot for you. Otherwise what's the point?

I'd worship food though, but I do that anyway.  dance
